Description: The Horseshoe Inn is a small 300 year old village pub located in the village of West Rounton in North Yorkshire. We provide a friendly warm atmosphere with excellent food and real ales. All of our food is freshly prepared by our Chef who has a reputation for producing traditional wholesome food using locally sourced produce. Our menu frequently changes and there are always 'Weekly Specials' on the blackboard along with a Starter and Dessert menu. Being situated in North Yorkshire we are lucky to be located in an area rich with excellent local produce. This is reflected in our menu’s that change seasonally enabling us to use ingredients when they are at there best. We offer a selection of meals to cater to most tastes including vegetarian meals. At The Horseshoe Inn we believe in keeping the menu simple but varied, this ensures that all the food is fresh and at its best.

“Lovely little place very friendly”
Reviewed 1 January 2014 via mobile

We visited the horseshoe inn after reading a review in the D and S !! It is a very small place and set up a little like a cafe but we got a seat by the fire and enjoyed drinks by the big Xmas tree ! We were seated for our food and all 4 meals were lovely veg was cooked to perfection and all presented well with a big bowl of chips and side salad. Very enjoyable would recommend and will return.

“A real gem in the middle of nowhere”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

Visited this Inn twice recently whilst on holiday in the area. Had a meal from their standard menu and it was very good - especially the sirloin steak which was tasty and cooked to perfection. Also, I went to one of their "Theme Nights" which had a most interesting Asian food menu. I had bhuna prawns on puri, makhani murghh & gam ki kulfi (home-made mango ice cream). What a surprise to get this kind of menu in a tiny village pub. The real winner that night was the kashmiri chilli beef - to die for! The service was informal, pleasant and helpful. This Inn is indeed fortunate to have such an innovative and competent Chef. I thoroughly recommend this Inn.

“How big are those puddings!!!”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

Called to book in The Horseshoe in after reading a review in the local paper. Im very glad we did.

There was 4 of us dining and nobody left hungry or disappointed. I ordered Potato skins for starters and they came along with 3 dips. They were cooked perfectly and not greasy like some places iv been. The portion size was huge and well worth the money.

Main course was roast beef for me and came out with the most amazing Yorkshire puds iv seen in ages. Nice to see people in Yorkshire can still make them instead of reaching for the aunt Bessies. All food was piping hot and came with way enough veg for all 4 of us and then some. Everyone had a different meat and the it was all cooked perfectly and not over cooked and once again all with amazing puddings. We also had desserts which were equally as nice, dont even know how we fitted them in after main course.

Iv looked on the web site and seen they also do theme nights which we have all said will be returning to. All the staff were very polite and helpful and nothing was to much trouble. I think this pub may need to build an extension as it needs more tables.

To the person who was disappointed , did you actually go to this pub??? Review was spot on in our eyes and so it would seem for others.

If you are looking for a traditional country Sunday lunch you have to go here!! Its amazing

“Well it must be me then.....”
Reviewed 30 August 2013 via mobile

I really am at a loss as to the rave reviews on trip advisor and from Malcolm Warne from the Darlington & Stockton Times. My lunch was ok but that was all. Very amateurish starter and ok roast and vegetables. But nothing to merit such a write up. If we are trying to promote Yorkshire as a culinary centre of excellence we need someone else writing the reviews! 40 out of 40 indeed.

First of all thanks for taking the time to write a review.
We are sorry that you have felt the need to review us 2 out of 5.
At The Horseshoe we take all criticism and hopefully improve on areas which aren't up to scratch.

First of all you say that the starter was amateur, this is a comment which has been passed onto our chef, even though the Sunday lunch was ok? We always prefer customers to make us aware of concerns / shortcomings / poor service at the time, Which in turn gives us the ability to rectify them, so that hopefully our diners can go away happy.

You also make a comment regarding Malcom Warne and his review. We are a small family run country pub and have never professed to be the culnery centre of Yorkshire. Malcom and many other diners have been impressed by our food. This has been fantastic for us, but also it has possibly gave the impression that we are possibly more of a fine dining experience. We are just a small pub offering good food at a reasonable price.

I possibly think that your comments should have been more directed at malcom, We think that two was a little unfair.

Best regards,
Mark Taylor.
