The main attraction in Richmond, on a sunny day nice to climb to the top of the Keep and see the surrounding countryside, Maybe not the best place on a rainy day as there is very little cover besides the Keep

Castle history was well presented in an exhibition.
Parking - English Heritage book said 2 hours free parking in the market square. We parked, and got a ticket with £25 fine. Apparently it was 'disc zone' although there was unclear markings as to what was a disc zone and what wasn't, and no indication of how to get the disc.Felt very angry - sorry won't be visiting Richmond again.

Not a bad walk around a smaller castle. Informative exhibition with a few stairs and rooms to explore. Shame you cannot see the prison cells from the war.

Really impressed with sheer size of the grounds as well as the Castle. Not normally my thing but I really enjoyed it, and so did my young daughter. We spent a long time exploring and there is a little shop to purchase souvenirs too. Well worth a visit if in or around the area.

Richmond Castle is one of the most impressive Yorkshire ruins. Located in the centre of this beautiful market town the castle was easy to find and near ample cheap parking. The staff were polite and friendly and the castle grounds are well kept.
Today was around my 11th or 12th visit to Richmond Castle, the extent of the ruins combined with the amazingly complete (albeit partially restored) donjon tower (the keep) make this a memorable and magical day out.
The main elements are the remains of an early medieval stone hall and range, curtain walls, a garden and the donjon. The highlight is the ability to climb to the full height of the castle and see amazing views over the town and surrounding dales.
On site is a small museum focusing on life in the earlier days of the castle and the later incarceration of conscientious objectors in a Georgian prison within the castle.
There is a good gift shop with drinks, snacks, toys, books and other nice things to buy.

I would suggest combining this castle with a visit to Easby Abbey a ruined house of the white cannons a few miles away, or the Richmondshire Museum.
