“Beautiful castle with spectacular views.”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

Richmond castle is a lovely little place. The castle is in ruins but you are still able to access certain parts of it. You can climb the main tower and look over Richmond and you can access other bits of the castle as well. In the centre of the ruins there is a lovely space which is perfect for sitting in on a summers day and there is some spectacular views over the countryside. Be sure to find the garden, it's a little bit hidden and out of the way but really beautiful.

“Lovely”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

I parked the car at the foot of the castle overlooking the River Swale. It is a lovely spot. I then climbed up an exhausting hill to the castle. The view from the castle is worth the climb to get there.Unfortunately, I did not go to the town of Richmond but I'd advise parking in the market square if you can to avoid the climb.

“Highly historic”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

Visited the castle as part of a circular walk from Easby Abbey. The huge keep can be seen from the countryside all around and is well worth a closer look and to explore. The views from the top are wonderful. We enjoyed the exhibition of the history of the castle and town. It is colourful and informative. Good for older children. The ruins are attractive with a lovely green area for picnics and a garden to walk around. Although this is attractive it lacks shady areas to sit and interesting things for children. We really enjoyed our visit. As always with English Heritage thier information boards are good but there is a lack of interaction for children. They could learn from the NT in this respect. The staff are friendly and helpful. A good visit.

“Pleasant walk”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

On the day we visited Richmond it was lovely and sunny. We walked around the castle grounds to see such beautiful views. The bridge, river.miles of countryside and old buildings. The people round Richmond were friendly and helpful about the area. The castle itself is full of interesting nooks and crannies besides the history surrounding it. I know we will be visiting again very soon and look forward to trying one of the restaurants. We also walked along the river bank which is very pretty, especially in warm weather.
