Visited with two of our grandchildren on a day trip down to Richmond, a place we have been to many times before but this was the first time we have gone to see the castle. Fantastic views from the top of the main tower over Richmond and the River Swale, despite the very steep stairs! We were however a little disappointed with the Cockpit garden area which didn't quite live up to our expectations.

Really enjoyed this vist as I was a child the last time I visted.
The view from the top of the keep is fantastic especially on a clear day .
Well worth a visit but you need to be good on your feet so see it all.

The exhibition and castle are very interesting with fabulous views over Richmond and surrounding countryside. Ideal picnic site with plenty of space for families.

Yes it is a ruin, but a magnificent one. You can walk up the main keep and have terrific views of Richmond and the river Swale. Fill in you history of the area post 1066. Find out why Richmond was strategically important. Or just take a picnic and enjoy the grounds.

We like this castle very much but on this visit we wanted to see more of Richmond as well. We drove around for ages following inadequate parking signs before finding a gap in the market place. We enjoyed the castle immensely and also visited other sites. Unfortunately, we didn't see any signs in the centre of the market area (which was very busy when we arrived) and ended up with a £50 parking fine! If you intend spending more than two hours in Richmond please be aware of this fact! We spent almost that long in the castle without mentioning going for coffee in a local hotel, visiting other nearby heritage sites and spending money in the market place.

Despite that, our memories of the castle are unsullied. It is a lovely place to visit with an interesting spanning centuries - from medieval times to the era of conscientious objectors. The views, not only from the top of the tower but from other points on site as well, are glorious.

Well worth a visit!
