Looking back through the reviews on here several people have mentioned about being invisible when sitting in the window - this is exactly what happened to us yesterday. After a 10 minute wait where all the tables round us got served I got up and asked a young girl if we could order - after saying she would see to it she continued clearing the table, headed back to the kitchen to emerge again 2/3 mins later and start clearing another table. At this point we decided enough was enough and got up to leave. Two other waitress's asked if there was a problem and on being told what had happened explained that the girl was on work experience. She took an order at a table whilst we were there so why couldnt she have taken ours? Will not be visiting again !!!!!

A welcoming old style cafe, with friendly welcoming staff, a extensive menu which must cause some food wastage and erode their profit line. Standard of food is good basic and plentiful overly plentiful which they should look at. Will meet the needs of most folks from breakfast through lunch and afternoon. Not licenced but you can pop next door for a pint of Timothy Taylor.
Dogs with well trained and responsible owners are welcome. This place is popular with locals as well as visitors, service will be good but may be slow at busy times.
Homemade soup and a sandwich was our choice for lunch , although we have also enjoyed a pre walk breakfast.
One disappointment on many visits was advertised as Cumberland Sausage, it certainly was not it was standard catering sausage and looked deep fried it wasn't very nice but our complaint was addressed and dealt with in a very professional manner. This one let down had not prevented us returning many times

What a pleasant find this was. Great food and the banter between the staff and my hubby was as refreshing as the drinks!
We liked it so much we called back again after sightseeing round the castle and Georgian theatre. We will be telling our friends/family to call here.

Been going for years and enjoying great homely food and friendly welcome but.........today,mother welcome was just the same but the food.....No!, I pointed out that the reason I had not eaten the baguette (just the filling and trimmings) was that the bread was old and inedible. I wasn’t asking for anything in return just that they open a fresh pack of baguettes maybe. It was very clear that an attempt had been made to hide the staleness by ‘open toasting’ slightly but this just made it worse and it crumbled in my hand. My lovely friendly lady pointed it out to the kitchen and they OFFERED A ONE POUND DISCOUNT! What an insult. An apology without the money would have been better. My husband wasn’t much happier. Having ordered a pie received a dish of creamy sauce with a small amount of floating meat and a small square of thin pastry on the top which didn’t even half cover the dish. His accompanying jacket potato and veg was delicious and fresh. It is fair to say that my accompanying chips were very hot and tasty. Pre prepared ones but quite nice nevertheless. Cross View, what has happened to the great food we have been used to? Who’s thoughtless ides was it to offer me a pound!? Embarrassing to even mention it. We leave bigger tips than that after a cup of tea!
