“Nearly Perfect!!”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

First ever visit here. The lodge was superb! In great condition. Perfectly clean and everything you could possibly want was in there. There were 5 of us, 3 generations of family, all adults. No complaints apart from the fishing. There was weed everywhere that really impacted all guests who were fishing. They say that they had only cleared it last week and do clear it out every fortnight - I've never seen weed on steroids before!! It was everywhere. We actually took a second car to get all the fishing tackle there. But wasted £100 on fuel as one guest lost interest in just dragging in so much weed.
The whole site is very clean and peaceful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Took the bikes and managed a few trips out too. Some good pubs and restaurants not too far away. There are two lakes, both offering slightly different views. The welcome basket was really nice too. Just plan the showers a little. Too many so close together does not give the water a chance to heat up. We just took time getting ready so water was fine. Other guests were not so patient.
Would definitely recommend the place, just a shame if you are only as a couple as someone has already stated. You might feel it is a little expensive then!
Remember, if booking a lodge here, make sure that they clear out your fishing peg first!!

Room Tip: one lake is quite open. The other has a lot more trees. This one is good for getting sun in the morn...

Thank you for your review, and we are pleased that you managed to use some of the facilities at Brompton Lakes, such as the bikes and its great to see that you had a little adventure from the site. With regard to the fishing, we are sorry that it had an impact on your stay with us and we are working very hard to improve this. We restocked the fishing lakes in March, however it is an ongoing programme. We do hope that you return to Brompton Lakes in the future.

we have been to Brompton lakes a few times now and we love it. The site is in a wonderful location and the cabins are beautiful. The times we have visited we have stayed in Abbey which is in a lovely location on the lake, it also has its own fishing peg which was great for me been an angler and yes I did catch some nice carp.
when we have been it is with some friends and there children, the children loved exploring down by the river and also hired mountain bikes to go further a field, I will add that these children are or were teenagers. We also walked to Richmond down the old railway line which is a lovely walk probably 7 miles there and back, could be less though. You can also walk to Easby abbey which is a glorious ruin, if you can't get a good picture there its time to bin the camera. There is also a church there which holds Sunday services.
Richmond it self is a nice town that has a Saturday market with fresh fish, meat and veg for sale and there is also a nice splattering of shops about the center of the town, there is also the castle but be warned it isn't cheap.
Our first visit was a few years back now and it was a fairly new site and we booked through rural retreats who insist on a certain standard of accommodation which was match easily by the staff at Brompton, since then we have been back a few times booked direct with Brompton lakes and we are pleased to say that there commitment to detail and luxury hasn't changed one bit. The site over the years is growing with more and more activates for visitors to enjoy yet still seems to be able to keep the standards high, I think the staff can take the glory for this, there hard work, dedication and politeness are what make this a great holiday for family's or friends looking for something a bit different.
As always sadly there is a down side and that is the price, all the cabins are for 6 people and can be over a 1000 pounds a week in the summer. if you can go with other couples it can spread the cost and make it more affordable, May be some smaller 1 bed room cabins would be a good idea so couples can go alone and not have to pay for 2 empty bedrooms. this is the only reason I haven't given it 5 stars.

Having stayed in the area a few times, we'd noticed this accommodation and had a quick shufty around the grounds to see if we fancied it. Had a short break in Flora, - superb.

I don't think I've stayed in such well appointed self catering accommodation, the sad thing is every thing else is now judged against this and usually falls short. It might not be the cheapest, but in life you get what you pay for, super quality in a lovely location on two fishing lakes ( I don't fish btw ) and along side the river Swale.

Will definitely return.

Amazing stay at Brompton Lakes, in Percy lodge. 5 nights of pure bliss. We were very lucky to have picked the best week for the weather which was hot hot hot! Could have done with a sunbed on the deck to soak up the rays! The lodge was perfect with everything you could possibly need supplied. Luxurious furnishings and a lovely hot tub too. Can't praise it enough! We'll definitely be back. (Only gripe is wifi charge, should really be included instead of having to pay £2.50 a day)
We made good use of tennis courts, boules and football pitch. Also lovely walk to Richmond. Spent a few hours by the river with fishing nets which the kids loved, great as only a few paces from the lodge. Also had lovely spa treatments from Sharon. Wonderful time had by all.

Room Tip: I have stayed at both Percy and Jules which each have a hot tub and both gorgeous.

This was our second visit to Brompton Lakes after we visited about 3 years ago. I can't believe we left it so long to return! The setting is just beautiful and it is impossible not to relax and simply soak up the relaxing atmosphere. We went with our two teenagers, grandparents plus our dog and the lodge and setting appealed to everyone.

The lodge (Coco) had everything we needed - it is brilliant to find all the essentials provided and there simply was every utensil etc that we required. The lodge is beautifully furnished but still manages to look and feel homely. We were so fortunate to have wall to wall sunshine every day and spent hours on the decking watching the wildlife and repeatedly pinching ourselves that we were not dreaming. In addition, there are lovely walks, short and long, which is great when you have a dog in tow.

Our kids made the most of the tennis court despite the soaring heat and it was great to see them enjoying a life (albeit for a few days only) without Xbox and iPads (although the wifi facility is an added bonus). As other reviewers have noted the staff are very friendly and helpful.

There is simply nothing to fault about this place. We will certainly not be waiting another 3 years before we return! I cannot recommend highly enough.

This is the first time I have visited Brompton Lakes and it certainly won't be the last. After looking at various sites which we thought would be suitable to take a 7 month old baby we choose this one. Boy did we make the right choice. What a stunning setting, even better than we expected. The lodge (Juniper) was more than we could have hoped for, everything there that we needed and it was immaculate as was the rest of the well maintained site. The peace, tranquillity and views just blew me away. We had our dog with us and it was great that he could stay out all day on the decking as we were lucky enough to have great weather, and watch the ducks, swans and the rest of the wild life He also enjoyed his long walks in the woods. My husband and son-in-law were fishing from morning till night, plenty fish around but their efforts were fruitless but they enjoyed it. The staff were more then helpful when we had to speak to them and there was always a friendly wave or a hello when they met us on our walks round the site. What I would say is that if anyone is going to stay here with a baby/child young enough to be in a pram/buggy they will not be able to take the walking routes into Richmond, they will need transport. Overall a fabulous experience and a big thank you to the lovely staff. Would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Brompton Lakes to anyone who is considering going. Looking forward to booking our next visit.

Room Tip: Juniper is south facing and catches the sun for the best part of the day.. It is also near to the te...

Booked a family break for my wifes 30th Birthday, Brompton Lakes is absolutely faultless, excellent customer service and communication via Adele, the Lodges and park are stunning. I've never stayed anywhere so clean, they were fabulously well equipped, the setting and views from the decking were beautiful. We also hired the Plantation Room for the party which was great.

I simply couldn't find the slightest fault with any aspect of Brompton Lakes. It is without doubt the best place I have ever stayed by a long way, I would recommend this to anyone.
