Finally getting around to reviewing places from a trip we took in September of 2017. What a fantastic place. Our group of 6 loud Americans cabbed over from Darlington just to visit this pub. We entered around 4:30 and stayed for 4 or 5 hours.
The publican and copublican were gracious hosts and agreeably amenable. We were told that an enjoyable brown ale was next in line once the current cask on was finished. Challenge accepted and well worth the effort. Fresh, quaffable brown was perfect for the cool Yorkshire night.
Our dinner was sporadically served (by our choosing) over the night and everything was stupendous. If it is available, try the rabbit pie; it was one of the best dishes any of us had over the course of our visit to the UK.

If you have the time, make it a point to visit this pub. It'll be well worth it.

Visited for lunch after a walk with our dog. Had checked out pubs in the area on TA and liked that this was a community owned pub, so decided to give it a try.
It’s what I would call a proper pub, not pretentious and not renovated to within an inch of its life like many are nowadays. Staff were helpful and friendly, beer was great, the food delicious and so reasonably priced. We had the pie, me rabbit, him steak, with chips and buttered greens. All beautifully home cooked, really couldn’t fault it. We sat in the beer garden as it was a beautiful sunny day and the views from there were stunning. Most definitely worth a visit if your in the area.

Having chosen The George and Dragon fir our lunch stop on the middle of a long walk, we were not disappointed. Enjoyed roast beef with all the trimmings, large home made Yorkshire pudding, delicious gravy. Will definitely visit again
