Went for lunch here with friends.Very quiet Tuesday lunchtime. Not a particularly extensive menu but the friendly barman said that it would probably be ok to have something from the main menu if we wanted. Had the steak and ale pie ( lunchtime menu) with chips and a good selection of vegetables. The pie was delicious - a proper home made pie with a bottom, top and side unlike the usual stewed meat with a disc of puff pastry which so many eating places offer. For dessert a lovely home made lemon meringue pie served with ice cream or cream. Good cappuccino to finish.
For good quality traditional food I would recommend that you give this place a try.

Went for a teatime special, pie, chips, potatoes and veg + extra gravy, very well cooked and presented, will return. A friendly lovely pub. 2 meals and 2 drinks - £20 good value.
On reading some of the previous reviews, I now know why one of the locals made comments about our clean plates.

This was our first visit to the King William IV. A very friendly welcome, and prompt service of our drinks.
The tomato soup starter was very tasty, creamy but with a hint of sharpness, good and hot, a generous portion. The Sunday lunch menu was almost exclusively roasts, most had roast beef, I had roast pork. The plated meals included potatoes and other vegetables, and by themselves would have been perfectly adequate, but the extra dishes of potatoes and other vegetables were far too much, and unfortunately most was left. Perhaps a jug of extra gravy would have been appreciated, though.
Service a bit scatty, gaps between bring out individual dishes, and ages between serving each cup of coffee. And one was forgotten.

Don't normally do reviews of restaurants etc, but had to write a quick review of our trip to King William IV today. The food was fantastic, between our group we sampled the burger stack, fish and chips and steak pie. All went down very well, good portions and fantastic chips!

It was quiet when we called in, and the service was very good and friendly. The food was maybe a little slower than expected but we were kept well informed.

All in all, a very good meal and we will definitely be back.
