“A lovely weekend break.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

From the minute we arrived we were greeted by friendly helpful staff who despite being very busy made us feel welcome. The food on both evenings was superb as was the breakfasts.
I could happily recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a short break in Yorkshire.

Stopped for coffee/ tea today. No earl grey and no scones available.Yet within feet of the hotel there were some quality bakers. Why could nobody be bothered to go shopping. there are at least two shop within yards where Earl Grey tea could be bought. Quess what we left!!

Room Tip: Give it a miss

Dear Guest I was saddened & disappointed that we failed to welcome you with Earl grey tea & some of usually beautiful homemade scones. I do hope you will call in again so we have the chance to restore your faith in us.
Kindest Regards

No reception staff available on arrival..... requested a room with a Market Place view and stuck in a room round the back over the kitchen. My partner got paint all over her coat because they were in the middle of a refurb, ladders and cables all over the place (a complete h/s nightmare) Ohhhh one last trivial thing. There was no hot water in the en-suite. All that said, the only redeeming feature was the food was awesome. 10 out 10 for the Chef I'd say the hotel is very unorganised/overpriced and over-rated....

Room Tip: Do not believe what you think you are booking

Stayed for 3 nights. Hotel is in a great location, in a lovely square with various shops, pubs and restaurants nearby. The hotel itself unfortunately, is woeful. The first room I was given had no shower, at all, not even an attachment. I asked to be moved and credit to the guy on reception, he checked for a while on the system and eventually found another room. This one was a superior which he said he would upgrade me to free if charge because there were no other standard rooms - I wasn't planning to pay more, what hotels bathrooms in this day and age don't have a shower or even a shower attachment on the bath?!

The rooms are clean but very shabby and everything is old (which the receptionist said is why there is a problem with controlling the heating - it's like a hot house on the top floor!!). They try to make it more 'superior' by putting bottles of water and apples in your room (which were shrivelled up!) but I would rather a decent mattress and windows that stayed opened without propping magazines under them.

At 2am in the first night I was woken by a hammering noise which was so loud! Turned out they had decided to replace the carpets - in the middle of the night?? One of our party complained and we did get a discount in the rooms, although the manager questioned whether we had actually heard the banging! Shame really because the rest of the staff were lovely but she really let the rest of the team down.

Breakfast was fine. The shower was more of a drip but I was just grateful to have a shower. There is apparently free wifi but it doesn't work in the rooms, only the reception area - I did ask and was told by the manager that it did work in the rooms and that they had even had an engineer out looking at it recently. This in itself suggests a problem but again the customer wasn't right! I can only imagine that it's intermittent because of the number of people using it. It started to rain on one of the nights which made the reception on the TV go down for 20 mins. Comedy of errors really which is unfortunate - they could do with spending a bit of money on bringing the place up to date

Ignore the bad vibes on TA. Yah, the building is old, so the showers not a blaster. The breakfast was a good quality and hot when served. The bedroom looked to be recently decorated. And the staff, really helpful, pleasant and welcoming. By the look of the number of people staying it's doing fine. So ignore TA, Chelsea.
