The cottage is wonderfully quirky in that the living room and kitchen are upstairs and this allows you to take full advantage of the stunning uninterrupted views across the fields. A lovely, homely cottage, nice and cozy and just what we wanted for out 5th wedding anniversary. Helen was more than helpful giving us a full run down of places to eat and visit, taxi fares and local events, the tour de yorkshire was starting in Richmond on the Saturday, making it easy to plan for the weekend.
I think we managed to use the hot tub 5 times in the 2 days that we rented the cottage. With the weather being so nice there wasnt a cloud in the sky and the display of stars was immense. Hot tub, glass of wine under a blanket of stars, we were in our element and come Monday we certainly didnt want to leave. My Mrs is looking into booking it for a full week over the summer. We would go back in a hearbeat.
This review could be six pages long singing the virtues of such wonderful home from home. We have stayed in many cottages over the years the length and breadth of the country but here at Wison House it was as though we were truly coming home. From the very warm welcone from Helen and family we were made to feel truly relaxed from the moment we step out of the car. The cottage has everything you would need and more, from a lovely warm range in the kitchen to the wonderfully appointed ensuite bathrooms in both bedrooms and the comfiest of beds for a great nights sleep after a day walking the beautiful countryside and exploring the farm and all it offers from chickens to cattle and sheep (we were there for lambing season) ..... then after a hard day relaxing back to the cottage and in to the hot tub situated right outside the cottage. The hot tub rounded off each day with a relaxing glass of Rioja and fabulous views of the rolling hills and the sound of the countryside. We could go on but try it for yourself. Helen is always on hand if you need any help or advice and is truly an amazing host. Can't wait until we return again
Warm and inviting, the Cottage at Wilson House is a great find. This upside down cottage took full advantage of the great country views and had everything you could need to make your stay really special - including a fabulous hot tub outside! Situated on a working farm, Helen and family were really welcoming and made sure that we had everything we needed and were also insightful as to where to go and where to eat and drink when we ventured out. We are already looking forward to when we next return to the Cottage and a nice relaxing stay away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
This is an ideal place to recharge body and soul. Peace and quiet and beautiful countryside coupled with long soaks in the Hot Tub really hit the spot for us.
Lovely cakes and sarnies left out for our arrival and we regrettted having to leave after only one week.
I booked this break for my son and his girlfriend he said Wilson house was outstanding inside and out and Helen was a really lovely woman with beautiful little touches baking them cake and scones he would definitely stay again and recommend people to stay 10 out of 10 he just wished id booked him in longer
Stayed here for 2 nights, wish we had booked for longer.
The cottage is beautiful, 2 lovely double ensuites with ample storage / space.
The open plan living area, kitchen / diner upstairs is spacious, well equipped and has the most amazing views.
The welcome cake in the fridge on arrival was a lovely surprise too.
The hot tub outside is such an added bonus and the visitor we had in a morning to give us our wake up call added much character and laughs (the owners chicken).
The local walks were nice and nearby Barnard castle is lovely.
Would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing country break.
We can not wait to come again.
We've just returned from a 1 week stay at this charming little cottage and cannot recommend it highly enough. The location is beautiful - feels in the middle of nowhere but is within quick driving distance of the A66. Lots of lovely walks are right on your doorstep. The owner, Helen was lovely and made us feel very welcome. The cottage itself was spotless with powerful showers, comfy beds and a large hot tub - the best we've used. The hot tub is lovely and peaceful at night (as long as you don't mind the occasional 'baa's' and 'moo's' from the neighbouring barns and fields) and the stars looked beautiful on a clear night! The Rayburn cooker is a beautiful feature and was simple to use, even for a rubbish cook like me!! Our kids lovely playing in the enclosed private courtyard and fell in love with the very friendly chicken who came to call every morning for some breakfast. Overall a wonderful family holiday has by all and we can't wait to return
