“Sadly we only stayed for the Fish and Chips Supper”
Reviewed 9 May 2012

Having been thoroughly disappointed by the Fish and Chip shop in the village we chanced upon the hotel. What a wonderful welcome, what superb service, what a delicious cup of tea and Fish and Chips to die for. The bar man took our order by simply listening to us from his side of the bar and within 10 minutes 7 enormous haddock and chips, non greasy and with frozen petit pois were set down infront of us. Delicious and just the perfect ending to our 100 mile walk from Grassington to Robin Hoods Bay. We had to leave two of our party for an hour whilst we rearranged our car movements, no problem they continued to be made welcome until our return. With this sort of expected Yorkshire welcome they should do well, I certainly hope so.

Room Tip: Sorry we only used the bar/restaurant but we will be looking at using the rooms next time

We stayed at the Victoria as the overnight between Edinburgh and Lichfield, England. We had been through buckets of rain and were wet and cold, but as soon as drove up to the hotel we knew we had picked the right place. The people were so helpful - let us use a closer door to bring in our luggage so as not to get so wet. They have a pub bar where we sat and warmed up and then had a wonderful dinner in a lovely room overlooking the North Sea. Even though the weather was not cooperating, the atmosphere was was and friendly. The room was huge, as was the bath and the warm towels were a great touch. We would recommend this hotel to anyone - we only had one night there but would gladly stay longer.

Room Tip: I imagine rooms overlooking the bay must be fantastic.

Stayed one night in a most comfortable 2nd floor room overlooking the sea. It was worth the climb up the 34 steps of the fine mahogany staircase. There was no reduction in price for single occupancy and so it may be some time before I return. However the food was delicious and I ate in the restaurant but I could have chosen the bar where I found 6 cask ales on handpull. There was a good breakfast but I could not have managed a second even though it was paid for!

Room Tip: More than half the rooms have a sea view. Prepare for a long haul up the stairs if you book a room a...

We went here for an evening meal while staying in the area at Easter. Myself, husband and two teenagers They could take dogs in one of their restaurant areas which was great. Lovely food, friendly staff. went back next day and had lunch in garden as it was lovely weather so could appreciate fantastic location. Again lovely food. Then in the evening on our way back from Whitby, once again decided to pop in for supper as we couldn't fault it. Lovely to see a traditional Victorian hotel which has retained all its original features but has been lovingly restored and updated so as to keep it busy and successful.

This hotel, in an imposing victorian building with a rather grand staircase, was quite a find. It is in a wonderful position, overlooking the immensely picturesque hamlet of Robin Hood's Bay with its warren of alley ways, leading to closely packed houses (all attractive, most to rent) winding up the steep hills each side of the single road in and out of the place and down to the long, wide beach. The hotel is under quite recent new ownership and possibly this shows. The attitude was one of warmth, care and tireless attention to detail. It was plain that nothing was too much trouble if it increased the quality of your stay. The bed and bathroom were clean and well equipped and had the bonus of a balcony. The view was amazing. The food was good, too. We were only there a night. I wish it had been a week, a month ...

Room Tip: Sea view, with balcony, a must.

We arrived at the Victoria and met with a warm welcome from Andrew the owner, the bedroom was of a good size and spotlessly clean as is the whole hotel, excellent food and a good selection of beers and spirits, all the staff were very helplful and friendly.

We will certainly return as the Victoria is firmly on our 'favorites' list.
