We stopped off for lunch after walking down the coastal path from Whitby on August Bank Holiday Monday. The place was busy but we managed to get a table in the upstairs bar which has very good sea views. The beers were good and staff very helpful. The food was typical pub grub but well prepared and reasonably priced for what is a very tourist orientated location. One aspect I liked was that the door to the kitchen was open and in full view of where we sat. I always applaud any place which does this as it means they have nothing to hide in the kitchen in terms of cleaniness etc. Will certainly call in again when next in the area.

We ended up here when The Wayfarer had let us down last minute. The Bay couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome, they even gave us a separate room to eat in as we were a group of 8. The food was standard pub grub but was well made, tasty and good value. We spent most of our evening at The Bay and had a fantastic time, what a great bunch of folk!

A lovely scenic view across the bay. Quiet busy on arrrive there are two bars at differnt levels we were up in the upper bar - tables inside mostly empty and there was a family room. Hard to spot the balcony area overlooking the back. When we arrived it was not being used - noisy compressor or a/c unit made us pop around the corner to find a quieter table and one that was not covered in what looked like bird detritous.

Drinks fine although somehwhat awkard to get to the seating area through french doors not ideal and the other steps to the balcony seemed to have been bricked up in part and forms a window - perhaps for bad weather.

The balconcy also was disappointingly not kept clear loads of butts and empty crisp packets. Woulds have benefited from a really good clean and some plants.

Food about standed - that was until we found the deep fried moth with our chips ! we had had enough at that stage. I only hope that you dont have the same experience !

We came here for our evening meal at the end of the coast to coast walk, as a guide book had recommended it. This recommendation was proved to be well-founded, as the place had a good menu and excellent service. The pub was very busy and we were lucky to get a table, which is a good sign. When the food came, which was fast, it was of a high standard, so overall I would certainly eat here again.
