Stayed for 1 night at the end of the coast to coast. Room good. We ate in the restaurant. Service was good as was the quality of the food, but VERY expensive. An extra £2.50 for veg, for a very little portion. Cost : £47.50 for 2 mains, 1 pudding (£7) & 2 drinks.
In the night someone else's compeed plaster stuck my leg to the duvet. I complained in the morning, & they kindly subtracted £7 from the cost of the double room (£80).
Breakfast was a joke. I'm surprised at the good review left by the 7 who stayed at the same time. Their first 3 tries at ordering breakfast were Off. Then they couldnt have scrambled egg if they didnt have bacon. My turn : no poached eggs. Scrambled or boiled only. And I had to ask for a 2nd cup of coffee. Finally, we couldnt leave the bags there for the day.

I am sorry you felt the need to put such a negative review on trip advisor. I remember you and your husband well. You complained from the moment you arrived we'll your husband did. Please let me take this opportunity to explain to future guests that side dishes are included in the price of the meals but should you require extras there is a small charge.
Breakfast was made very awkward by these guests an after an out burst at breakfast much to the amazement of the other guests staying at the same time ( please see review dated 24 th) when theses guests were informed by the other guests that Pack Horse do not collect bags in the lower bay. This is not a responsibility of The Boathouse. (Sherpa do collect) as we explained at the time we are unable to house 16 suitcases for the day especially when Sherpa would be delivering a further 10 at noon.
The plaster they complained about is mystery as it was never found ( they were unable to explain where it was) as we would have raised the issue with the laundry company that clean and prepare the bedding in Whitby!
The review on the 24th is a genuine honest review.

7 of us stopped here on completing the Coast 2 Coast - and very pleasant it was. We had two twins (one with an extra bed) and the appartment which was also very nice. The location is excellent - right by the beach and the official end to the C2C. We also ate our celebration meal at the restaurant downstairs and that was also delicious. One thing to bear in mind - if you are doing the coast 2 coast and are having your bags transfered by (and being transfered yourself back to Kirkby Stephen) the Packhorse Baggage company - as they won't be picking you or your bags up til later on the afternoon (3/4pm) - is that there is nowhere at the Boathouse Rooms to store your bags for the day. However the local taxi company will pick them up and store them (£2 per bag plus taxi fare to take them up the hill) and the Packhorse can pick them up direct from the taxi office leaving you free for the day!

Thank you for a honest review. It is a great shame that Pack Horse don't collect your bags from the Bay. Sherpa another carriage company do! I am so pleased you have made it clear and now when we take bookings from guests who choose to use Pack Horse we mention that they need to read there documentation as to what happens at the end of the walk. If it is just a couple of bags we can usually accommodate them but since all of you we're Pack Horse that day it is impossible for us to store all your bags and still accept 10 more suite cases from Sherpa. As you say the local taxi firm who dropped your bags off were happy to store them for you.

While enjoying a fabulous meal at Smugglers we decided to ask if any accommodation was available for 1 night and we were offered the apartment which was gorgeous! Very tastefully decorated, comfortable and cosy and great views of the street to watch passers by. We will definitely be back. Restaurant has a fantastic ambience and food is to die for!! Perfect for a special occasion. Thanks for a truly perfect end to our holiday! Lynne and Neil from Durham.

We had a lovely stay at the Boathouse self-catering apartment. It was cosy, nicely furnished and very clean. A stones throw away from the beach and all local amenities. Only criticisms would be that there was very little in the way of self-catering utensils and crockery and no instructions with regards to when/ where to put out refuse or instructions of how to set up the TV. Spent a long time trying to work this out only to discover the TV was not actually working. The owners were prompt in trying to sort this out however. Apart from this everything else was great and would definitely recommend this place for a lovely break away.

Lovely rooms and great food, mackerel pate and the crab risotto, with massive juicy prawns ~ the best I have ever tasted. Keeping a simple fresh menu such as this means quality. Fine English wine was a pleasant surprise. Absolutely delightful stay, just what was needed and the sun shone too which always helps. Friendly and professional without fuss.
