“No kilts required at scotch corner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2013

We stayed here on new years eve having passed by for years en route to visit family near Glasgow. This was a recent take over by the holiday Inn chain and they had refurbished the entire hotel to a very high standard( though we didn't have time to try the pool etc).
The modern finish was first class and we will be visiting again on our next trip northwards after this experience. There is free wi_fi here too which isn't always the case with holiday inn unless it's an express version. The only point to be aware of is the exit off the roundabout and entrance to the hotel car park whichwas under water when we arrived due to a recent heavy downpour.Make sure you aim for the entrance immediately after the traffic lights or you will be down the A66 and have to return to the huge roundabout and go all the way round once again.Oops

Stayed over 3 different weeks leading up to Christmas, the staff were fantastic as is the accomodation, food and gym facilities. Food menu was varied enough, even over 3 weeks, and bar prices are very competative!

Room Tip: Middle or top floor to the rear of the building, the ground floor feels less grand, and more traffic...

This was a lovely hotel with first class service. We went as a family group (adult) to celebrate the new year together and had a fabulous evening, good food, entertainment and dancing. The rooms were very good and spotlessly clean and no problems with traffic noise, the staff were very friendly and very helpful. Every consideration was made for guests at this event including brunch for guests which was served fro 8am -1pm, wonderful after partying until the early hours. The location was great as we travelled in from South and North and it was easily accessible.
We will definitely visit again

The newly refurbished holiday inn is very comfortable and clean, £ 79 per night Inc breakfast. The pseudo Italian restaurant is expensive. Corkage for a bottle of wine was £ 10. I walked out when was asked to pay £10 If I wanted to open my own bottle of wine, I felt ripped off. I don't mind paying 2 or 3 quid, but not a tenner. The inclusive breakfast was dry and inedible.

Thank you for your comments; we appreciate you taking the time to express your opinions on your recent stay with us. I can only apologise that you felt the £10.00 corkage was too high; I will personally pass these comments onto our food and beverage manager.

Had my 5th stay here just before Christmas.

The hotel is conveniently situated very near to the A1 - but now problem with noise. The hotel has been refurbished about a year ago with an Art Deco theme. The rooms are very spacious, clean and well furnished - I appreciated the upgrade to an executive room. The TV system is very good including the facility to record programs for later viewing - one gripe with this - the system timing seemed to be 10 minutes ahead of real time with the result that recording cut out before the end of the program being recorded. I enjoyed a very good meal in the Italian restaurant.

The biggest asset of this hotel continues to be the very friendly and efficient service provided by the staff.

Having stayed at a large number of Holiday Inns over the years (I'm a platinum member of the Priority Club) I can honestly say that this is the best Holiday Inn I've stayed at.

Room Tip: The corridors are not completely carpeted - for a quiet night ask for a room where the immediate cor...

beautiful hotel with lovely pleasent staff our room was large and clean the bed was comfortable .the breakfast lovely but not hot enough for me.the bar staff are great but if like me you do not like ice in your drink tell them when you order it as they tend to put ice in the glass first without asking.

Room Tip: our room was at the right hand side of the hotel it had the sun in the morning.

We spent the evening at this hotel for our works Christmas do. The hotel has been renovated approx 1year ago and the decor is lovely especially considering the previous style. The rooms are spacious and contemporary, they have a full sized ironing board and iron in the wardrobe which I thought was good (you dont always get this in hotels). The bathroom again is spacious, contemporary and clean with a good supply of water to the shower, not the trickle like you find in some. You get 1 complementary still and sparkling water, a carton of juice and 2 kitcats in the fridge and I think I remember a safe in the room too.

The hotel staff are friendly but a bit slow in processing check-in/requests and I didnt get my wake-up call.

The food for our Christmas meal was a bit like what I would expect for an early bird special, it wasnt inediable but it was a bit bland but the service was good, considering there were approx 150 people to serve at once, the wait between sittings was minimal.

The breakfast was nothing to be desired unfortunately as I do love a cooked breakfast. I couldnt finish it but not for being full so I stuck to buttered toast. It took a while to be noticed too so we had to go looking for someone for a tea/coffee which is served to the table.

All in all, it is a nice place to stay for the night as it is a lovely hotel, I wouldnt however go back for the food!
