“Can't wait to go again!”
Reviewed 27 February 2009

We stayed at the Blue Bell for the 1st time after having eaten there many times. We were not disappointed! My husband and I had the Dom Perignon room and our friends had the Krug room, they are both in the 'Champagne House' of which there are 6 rooms (There are also rooms in the main pub). Each room had a wood burning stove in which was lovely, were very well decorated and extremely clean. Although the bathroom was not huge and could maybe have done with another shelf to put toiletries on it was still very nice .

As always the food was excellent, there is a very good menu and a great choice on the specials board. Gerard who owns the pub is a very nice person and makes sure everyone is well looked after. Whether you are sat in the restaurant or the bar area the ambience is lovely. Although the village of Weaverthorpe seems off the beaten track, once you have been and get used to winding road it is well worth the journey.

Played golf at Ganton Golf Club and stayed at the Blue Bell Inn which was only a 10 minute drive away.
The no-nonsense jovial host Jaz, upgraded our room to one of the lovely champagne rooms adjacent to the Inn. The modern room was extremely clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated with ensuite facilities.
The Chefs at the Blue Bell are fantastic. The evening meal menu is varied and the large portions are delicious.
Deserts are special if you can make room for one!. The full English breakfast set us up for the day and nothing seemed too much trouble. Mobile phone signals were non-existant for us at the hotel but Jaz let us use the bar phone when required. Thoroughly recommended.

  • Liked — cleanliness of room and fantastic food

Hotel/Inn was not open when we arrived at 4.30pm. Had to talk to a chef who contacted the landlord(who turned out to be the owner of the establishment). The owner then signed us in but told us that the bar would not be open until 6pm. He showed us to our room (number 5) which was overlooking the village main road. Room quite clean but very basic eg no headboard on the bed, no chairs or any means of sitting other than on the bed. Bathroom very small with stiff controls for the shower-two hands required to operate the on/off function. Lighting in the room was very dim and the beadside radio/alarm did not work. TV reception was poor, BBC1,2,3 and Ch4 only- had to manipulate TV rod aerial to get a reasonable picture.
Evening meal was from a la carte menu which was quite extensive. To start, we both had Confit duck on garlic mash followed by a welcome lemon sorbet(complimentary and very nice too!). For the main course we both opted for slow roasted shoulder of lamb(boned and rolled and cut into quite large single joints) served with vegetable selection which included boiled new and lyonnaise potatoes. All of this was quite good and satisfying when washed down with a bottle of Fleurie(£19.95 per bottle).
Breakfast, cooked to perfection, with bacon, egg, sausage, tomatoe(with option of hash browns and mushrooms) was served with thick slices of granary bread toast accompanied with excellent marmalade. The usual preliminaries of cereals and orange juice were also available.
All in all meals are very good and for a price of £65 per room B&B (Total cost £124.30 including dinner and wine) our stay was fine.
Perhaps a little bit more warmth and friendliness from the staff and chairs and a headboard in the room would have made our stay more pleasant.

  • Liked — Price
  • Disliked — Very basic amenities, lack of friendliness on check in/check out.
