Although we know the Premier Inns well, this was our first visit to this particular establishment. After a long drive from the North, it was good to see the Inn in the distance but a little hard to find the way in from a rather complicated roundabout it sits on! However, once in, we found lots of parking and a good friendly reception.
Our room was the usual for Premier Inn but noticed that we only had one chair for the two of us. The TV was rather small for the size of the room I thought.
As for the double bed, I had commented before about the wisdom of putting a quality mattress on a solid base. In my past, I worked for a premium bedding manufacturer who would have held their hands up in horror at the mere thought of the idea. I have a sprung divan (and quality mattress!) at home and I'm convinced that it's the better solution but we'll never agree. The mattress in the room I slept in was feeling a little tired.
The bathroom was fine although the light switch above the mirror had lost its bobble on the end of the chord.
We had dinner and breakfast in the adjoining restaurant and have a couple of points to mention. Firstly, being the holiday season, there were many families around and we noticed that young children were allowed to wander around the restaurant at will, in fact, some were running and bumping into staff and customers. Would it not be a good idea to have a children's area? We're parents ourselves but our children (now grown up) were never allowed to run about like this - I guess that's the modern approach.
My second point concerns my full breakfast which had cost me £8.75 and it was only luke warm, mainly because the plate was cold. My wife's breakfast was OK so I quickly got on with mine as there were no staff around to raise the issue with. I then made myself a couple of slices of toast but the machine was set wrongly and it came out only half done. If I'd passed it through again, it would have burnt it and as I don't waste food at all I put up with it. Not ideal.
