Two grandparents, daughter and two grand children is always a challenge to find food that pleases all. The Ship Inn did - offered a wide choice of standard menu and specials of the day, with something to suite each one of us. The food was served hot and was really well cooked and delicious. Friendly staff and a real 'olde world' atmosphere made for an excellent bank holiday Monday lunch. We would recommend to anyone visiting Oundle.

We used this restaurant recently for a meal on a Saturday night,we had tried another couple of places before this but they were booked. The place didn't look that nice from the outside but when we got inside staff made us feel most welcome and the food was excellent!. Food was piping hot and the portion size was very good and how tasty.
Thank you for the experience and if we are in the area again will certainly use you again.

Really good pub food in comfortable bar with lots going on. and not too expensive either. Difficult to fault because the chicken pie was obviously home made (real pastry, not a lid on a bowl which had been thrown in a hot oven for a couple of minutes), and the chicken breast wrapped in parma ham was a generous portion. Some of the vegetables showed welcome signs of having been grown recently and were not of the frozen Tesco type, and the well populated cheese board was plenty for two to share.
Just to demonstrate that we were not a complete pushover, it has to be stated that the drinks were very pricey - £2.80 for a pint of soda and lime (fizzed-up water with a dash of cordial) is four times what we have paid in some places. Sorry, but that's a ratings star taken off another wise excellent evening.

The interior is very atmospheric- all huge blackened oak beams, lots of brass, a huge ingle nook with a real fire (if the weather is cold) and a blackboard choice of specials that leave you spoiled for choice. The duck must be very good because only one was left when we ordered - so my wife had that because it WAS her birthday . You can't actually park outside the door as Oundle is a busy popular shoppers delight with lots of quaint single commodity shops and the road outside the Ship Inn is narrow., But there is - through a narrow arch, and a very tight turn left, a big car park.. I had parked in the village square before discovering this facility and because the meal is specially cooked for you after the order (add an extra star for that alone), I was able to take a photo shoot of the delightful array of shop fronts on the way back to retrieve the car. I advise you too explore the town before you eat because the exit from the parking is as narrow as the entrance arch; and you go out onto the River Nene flood plane and into open countryside - and sure as eggs is eggs the small parking area, near the olde worlde town hall and 17th century houses and inns in the centre of the town, will have no space left.

The Ship is a friendly local inn in the heart of the historic market town of Oundle.

I visited for lunch with a friend and sat in the well appointed (if a little lacking in view) beer garden and enjoyed a baguette. The food was competent although not exceptional.

The real magic of the Ship Inn is inside, where the is friendly chatter from local and a roaring fireplace.

Well worth a visit for a few drinks or a decent lunch.
