It beautifully presented but unpretentious and has a well chosen menu thats beautifully cooked. A village pub from the outside and really clean plainly decorated rooms make this a lovely place to eat

We live relatively close to the Vine House and it's been on our agenda for years but it wasn't until recently we went there for lunch. Both lunch and dinner offer the same short set menu only. Mid-week the dining room was quiet but the small number of diners were all extremely enthusiastic about the food and from our point of view justifiably so; it was all at least very good and the main course qualified as terrific. The starter was an elegant, precise dish with plenty of flavour but it was the brill fillets on a bed of spinach with superbly rich and refined mashed potato that stole the show. The substantial variation on ice cream for dessert also encouraged pleasurable approval. The location demands a drive and we were limited in our alcoholic intake which essentially meant wine by the glass; we stuck with the house French sauvignon which was adequate.

This is by no means a cheap option with the set menu at £30 or more if you choose a dish carrying a supplement. Buying our wine by the glass did us no financial favours and there is also a twelve and a half % service charge so we ended up with a three figure bill. However despite the cost I'm willing to rate this as excellent because the food was so good, the setting extremely pleasant and the service both amiable and enthusiastic. We certainly intend to go again and will encourage friends to visit too.

Thank you all at The Vine House for a superb dinner on Saturday 19th April. The food was, as always, superb. Marcus and Julie Springett are the perfect hosts along with their front of house staff and the restaurant is easily the best in Northamptonshire.

Every time we have dinner at the vine house we feel guilty about having been away too long. Possibly not the High Mass of haute cuisine, but every time a surprise what good craftmanship and good products can do. Combine this with the warmest hospitality, and you have a fail safe recipe for a great evening out.

My good friends suggested a meal out and they went on the internet for ideas and saw this. What a little gem, although a limited fixed menu we all enjoyed all courses, the undoubted star of the starters was the roasted beetroot (just try it) the home smoked salmon and chicken were close runners up. Venison and fillet steak followed, whilst the beef was perfectly cooked and very tasty next time I will have the venison, the desserts were not disappointing. Staff were very accommodating and overall a real find.
