“GREAT DOUBLE ACT”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

Went over easter the castle was the best i`ve been round , a "working "castle.
Gardens wern`t at ttheir best but i`ll go back in summer when more colour should be in the garden.
The poison garden was interesting but disappointing in content .
Like the idea in only paying once for return trips.

“Alnwick Castle & Garden - a very blustery visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

It was extremely cold and windy on the day so not as pleasant a visit as it would be on a warm day. Lots of history - obviously. The Staterooms were fabulous. The Garden was a bit of a great disappointment as there was very little in bloom. Even had the displays been better I would still feel I didn't get value for money at £24 for a couple.

“A Great Day Out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2012

We visited the castle in Easter and mainly because of it's Harry Potter links. It could be argued that this is the castle's biggest "draw" and the onsite shops carry lots of HP merchandise.

There are plenty of activities for the children to do including broomstick training but as there were only 6 half hour lessons in a day we booked a lesson for our daughter immediately.

The grounds are full of history and scenery is beautiful. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

Entry to the castle for 2 adults and 1 child was around £35. However, during purchase I was asked if I wanted to upgrade for free to an annual pass. I thought the admission fee alone was excellent value, but then an annual pass for free too? Wow. Now that's value.

“castle worth a visit and great gardens.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2012

the castle and gardens are a must see very beautiful. we especially liked the castle which has so much to see and it gives you a good insight into how people lived all those years ago. lots to do for the children in the court yard including games and dressing up and craft making. in the court yards also there is a shop and a few small stalls selling food and a cafe.the tickets cost £55 for a family of four to visit the gardens and castle which is quite expensive considering we have visited castle in london cheaper. we got our tickets validated so we can visit as many times as you like for free within the year, as we plan to go back when the weather is better to visit the lost cellars which we could not do as the children have to be over 13 years old to visit. the gardens are beautiful with plenty of places to bring your own picnic. we visited the cafe bang on lunch time which was busy and very over crowded but we felt that the tables could have been better laid out to accomodate as it seemed very cluttered and muddled looking and also expensive for what you get..car parking is £3.50 all day / free for disabled badge holders. over all a good day out with beautiful scenery and castle.

“We will defo take advantage of our yearly pass”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2012 via mobile

A little pricey but once your in you can understand why. The gardens where lovely very well kept and amazingly clean. We had a lovely tour guide at the Poison gardens we had a laugh. The castle was great I chickened out of the the lost cellar tour but my husband said it was ok little disappointing. Loads to do if you have children especially Harry potter lovers! We converted our tickets to yearly passes because we will defo be returning if we get a nice summers day! Picnic in hand as food expensive!! Overall a very good day!
