“Beautifully kept gardens”

Lovely gardens and the 'Poison Garden' tour was interesting. Shame they leave all the kiddies toys at the bottom of the Cascade as it spoils a lovely view/picture

“Just the Gardens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2014

Visited Alnwick Castle gardens whilst enjoying Easter break in Seahouses. Did not visit the castle as Harry Potter leave all four in party consumed with indifference. However, gardens on their own as well worth the trip. One of party was temporarily disabled having undergone full knee replacement roughly six weeks ago so rang to ask whether we could hire wheelchair. Were told that we could, asked to provide our surname and told we should drive into disabled car park to collect. Mentioned that we did not have blue badge but this was not a problem. Drove into carpark as requested and chair was waiting - asked where we needed to to to pay and were told "no charge" Excellent start but then it got even better ~ when we went to pay garden entry fee mentioned wheelchair and one of party became "carer" so was not required to pay for entry. Even on a not too brilliant day the gardens are lovely and the guide who took us into the poison garden was informative and amusing. Even lunch in the cafeteria was not all that exorbitant - about motorway service centre cost levels but quality of food much better. Just have to mention that am always confused when the staff at a self-service outlet have a container on the counter for "tips" Presumably this is for good service but as self-service I wonder what they would do if I decided I have served myself well and too a quid out of the pot. (Should not get too worried though - I haven't got the bottle!!

“What a gem!”

I do recommend that you visit the Garden if nearby. You can purchase a joint ticket giving you access to the Castle and the Garden, as they are owned by different people. Although the garden could be considered a 'theme park' the planting was just so generous. I loved all the tulips, and was sorry that the alliums weren't out, just beginning to show some colour. The water features are wonderful, even if you are not a child. The walled garden was just amazing. I particularly loved the way they had used Malus to create wonderful squares of planting.

“Now a Convert to Garden Visits”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2014

I'm not a fan of garden visits but this is just something else! It's really several gardens - Formal, Serpent (you need to see it!), Poison Garden (guided tours!), the fantastic Grand Cascade ... Absolutely fantastic. It's been compared to Chatsworth but it's in a different league! I'll be visiting again!
