Description: An ancient and historic pub, where Robbie Burns once slept, offering a warm Northumbrian welcome and great local food - try our fabulously fresh fish and chips, or delicious beef sourced from a farm just down the road.Service with a smile and a relaxed and comfortable meal waits for you - there's been an inn on this site for around 600 years so why not call in and take a break - we serve food from 12 noon until 9 pm seven days a week.

The certificate of exellence, seriously? According to our experience, the food was moderate quality at its best, and the waitress did not know what she was serving (she mixed up two of our portions and forgot half of another two). That's just weird. Moreover, we have a good reason to suspect that the "hand-cut" chips might have been bought from a supermarket. Hamburger dishes were OK but the pasta and fish dishes were honestly a disappointment (cold, not tasty and tiny portions).

I went here with my mother in law yesterday. We have never been before, and just thought we'd try as the menu looked nice. Lovely warm pub inside, and great menu. I am slightly picky with food, yet here I was spoilt for choice. Plenty of vegetarian options. Hand cut chips were an inch wide! and red hot. Reasonable prices for good quality food. Lovely, would highly recommend. I will be back.

Excellent service, good beer and value for money food. Hidden down a side street you could easily miss it if you didn't know it was there.
