I visited and stayed here during March for 1 night on a reconnaisance trip before the main event in April - a wedding at Alnwick castle, when I stayed for 3 nights. Before and during my first visit, i agreed a great discount with the manager Gary, for all our wedding guests that booked 1 or more nights for the wedding weekend and in response, 82 of our party stayed here (they have 53 rooms). Our whole party had nothing but praise for the hotel, rooms, cleanliness, staff and food. Gary even arranged for the bar to stay open an extra 2 hours after the wedding night finished at the castle.
Most of our party ate dinner here on the 1st night. I can recommend the chicken teryaki and the steak and ale pie. However, there are alternative restaurants in the town, approx 1.5 miles away.
Alnwick Castle and Gardens are both worth a visit and groups of 14 or more receive approx 25% admission discount, if booked in advance.
While you are here, if you need a taxi, I can also recommend AA Taxis. If you have a large party, the manager, Steve will be glad to discuss discounted fares.
The only downside is for anyone who is a light sleeper. The hotel is adjacent to the A1 and there is some traffic noise at night, so take your ear plugs.
Recommended trips in the area - Alnmouth and Bamburgh have nice beaches. Great castles at Alnwick, Bamburgh, Walkworth, Lindisfarne and Berwick upon Tweed which also has a lovely walk around the top of the Elizabethan town walls. Nice drives in the Kielder forest. Pretty marina at Amble and a lovely, unusual extensive stately home and grounds at Cragside.
A visit well recommended, however take your warm clothing as there is always a cold wind coming off the North Sea.
