“Perfect...”
Reviewed 19 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

I don't normally leave reviews on tripadvisor (in fact I had to actually set an account up to do this) but after reading the latest one, I just had to this time! My partner and I stayed in Bucklaw Cottage last month and I have to say it was perfect! If you have booked to stay, please be reassured by this review. The cottage is well located and within walking distance of Alnwick centre, which makes it rural but easily accessible. It is set within a courtyard which is nice and quiet with a small sitting area. Yes there are a couple of cars parked there now and again but it is by no means a carpark! (Trust me my girlfriend is an Architect she knows the difference between a carpark and a courtyard). The photographs are a true reflection. There are two sets of glass doors, one in the living room and one in the bedroom, which open out onto the courtyard, making to cottage nice and airy. We arrived to a lovely welcome basket with wine and nibbles which was a thoughtful touch. The bed was amazing! so comfortable! There were more then enough towels for two, HOWEVER there was a washer dryer and washing power provided and since this is self catering and not a hotel, I would say that is absolutely adequate. The whole place was very clean and presented very well. The kitchen was well equipped and I personally have no complaints about the crockery, I mean how many matching cups do you need in a self catering cottage that sleeps 2? Well I suppose subjective. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to booking again! Oh and also if you do visit barter books is a must!

“Disappointed”
Reviewed 13 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Bucklaw Cottage has 4 very complimentary reviews on Trip Advisor and from the description and photos we were anticipating something special. First impressions are good, tastefully decorated with an abundance of room accentors, welcome basket, milk in the fridge etc.
However, after almost 400 miles in the car, finding 6 non matching, crazed and tea stained mugs in the cupboard ( soon sorted with a scouring pad) and then cloudy non matching glasses, and even a cracked wine glass in the cupboard was disappointing.
There was one tea towel, and one set of towels per person for a 10 night stay and no "fluffy robes" at all!
While the cottage is well located, it is about 200 metres off the A1 and the outside space is merely a table and two chairs in the car park ( which is devoid of cars in the photos). I would not describe it as rural, but that is subjective. What is also on site is a B&B, small caravan park some private residences.
Bucklaw cottage is a functional holiday cottage, but it does not warrant the abundance of superlatives used to describe it. What I have outlined are such easily rectified issues, very basic requirements for holiday rentals in 2016.

“a wonderful Gem”
Reviewed 13 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

This was our first visit to Northumberland and it did not disappoint in any way.
Bucklaw Cottage was a lovely place to stay, beautifully decorated and appointed. We will definitely go again. It is in a quiet rural setting but only 5 minutes drive into Alnwick and very well located for all the various sights in the area. ................and what a wonderful area.
There are so many fabulous places to visit, Alnwick Castle and gardens, Bamburgh, Holy Island, Lindisfarne to name a few. Make sure you pay a visit to Barters book shop in Alnwick, housed in an old railway station..........another gem.

“Relaxing Holiday in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed 20 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We stayed at Bucklaw for a week's holiday in September. The cottage is very well equipped, clean and comfortable - a real home from home. It is also in a perfect spot to enjoy all the amenities which Alnwick has to offer and to be able to explore the rest of Northumberland Bucklaw is also in such a peaceful spot it's hard to believe the close proximity of the A1! We enjoyed our holiday so much we have already booked for 2015.
