just stayed at the premier inn on the 5th august ,well you just cannot fault this hotel,we stayed for 5 nights and every thing was excellent. the location was lovely, right at the side of a lake full of swans and ducks, ideal for kids.the only fault with this place is the restaurant.if you booked a table you might have to wait for a table for several minutes, then you would have to put up with screaming kids as this restaurant is very kid freindly, after two nights we went elswere to eat.if you just wanted a drink before dinner you had to que about 12 deep just to get your drink, just one que for food and drink.the trouble seemed to be shortage of bar staff. On another note the breakfast was first class everything from full english to continental, hot and plentyfull fist class.

The Premier Inn is a very high standard, staff very friendly, very clean and well presented, however personally I found the bed very uncomfortable being a little on the firm side. A lovely location on the edge of a lake. I had a room at the back of the hotel which was very near a very busy road and was quite noisy but did not bother me too much, the other rooms would be near the car park so not sure what would be worse! Wi Fi not good, they offer 30 mins free but I could not stay connected long enough to use it. Unfortunately the restaurant attached is very poor - and after a disastrous meal the first night we ate elsewhere - a pity as it is the only thing that lets the hotel down.

For a budget hotel the view offered from the rooms overlooking the mere is fantastic. Rooms are the usual fare but the view from those over the restaurant / bar look out over the mere with great views and wonderful wildlife. Positioned just inside the QE country park on the outskirts of Ashington this makes for a perfect base for visitors to Newcastle and heading north to Northumberland.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Mere on the second first floor

Great hotel over looking the lake and also on Northumberlands coast road. Rooms could do with some updating to bring them upto other Premier Inn Hotels. Great prices and great pub next door. 5***** overall from me :)

This hotel site is in a lovely position by a lake. With no other business in the same vacinity you get an air of a private country club, both outside and in. The building looks good in its setting, although the car park surrounds could look better, the interior decore is fresh and smart and I was impressed with the overall look and feel of the place. The room was in excellent order, clean, fresh and did not have any of those tired bits of grout and sealer strips in the bathroom. I had a great stay and undissturbed sleep. One word of caution though, there are hundreds of swans and geese by the lake which everyone feeds, I saw some very young kids running screeming being chased by swans, tell the kids not to run while still holding bread, drop it on the ground first. I would recomend this hotel anytime.

Room Tip: Did not find a lift which was irritating as I am disabled and stairs are a problem.

Well was not disappointed up to the high standard we have come to love. For the money you cannot ask for more clean and comfortable bed, good size room and I always look forward to the deep bath, nothing like it when you turn up tried from travelling. Friendly staff always greeting with a smile. Although close to road traffic noise was not a problem. Only used restaurant for breakfast which was adequate but as only had one meal do not think it correct to rate either way.

All the staff were extremely friendly and polite - special mention to the two ladies on reception who when faced with two weary travellers, who had struggled to find the hotel in the fog at very nearly midnight, greeted us with a cheery smile which made us relax immediately. The room was spacious, clean and extremely well maintained. Breakfast was fab, tasty, hot, plenty of choice and more than we could ever wish for.

Upon arrival we were unaware of the beautiful setting this hotel was in the midst of, only daylight brought this to our attention... it is truly lovely.

I walked around the lake (to kill sometime whilst my other half was busy at work) - it takes a while believe me, it's quite a size! I would recommend setting some time aside out of your schedule to do this and walk to Woodhorn too, it is rather special.

Such a shame we only stayed one night ... we will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view of the lake.
