“Boxing Day Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013

Staying in a cottage in Beadnell over Christmas we were looking for somewhere to eat on Boxing Day. I booked a table for fifteen (including three children and a baby) at the Victoria and requested a private room. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find the hotel had a facelift and was tastefully decorated and the private dining area was just set off from the main area (open plan). The main menu and children's menu is varied and reasonably priced, the food came quickly and was thoroughly enjoyable. We will certainly go back again.

Dear Jeff B,

Many thanks in writing a review and spending the festive period with ourselves. I am very pleased that you like the decor and the hotel as I am sure you can understand decorating a hotel does take time and we break this into phases and makes the work worthwhile. I am delighted that the food was to your standards and that you enjoyed Boxing Day with us. I really hope to see you all again when you are next in the area.

We have to give full marks to Laura, Alex and all the team at The Victoria for making our wedding day the best!
First of all the planning was made effortless by Laura's relaxed and friendly manner that it made everything so easy for us. No request or detail was too difficult for them making the occasion very personal and special.
Several of our guests stayed at The Victoria but we we also rented a property in the village for us and our immediate family. We handed the keys over to Laura she and her team set up a fantastic traditional afternoon tea there after our ceremony! The food was all home cooked and delicious!
Later we had an evening meal in the hotel restaurant for about 30 guests and the food and service was second to none! All or guests were able to pre order exactly what they wanted to eat from the extensive menu so everyone had a lovely meal of their choice!
Any one thinking about having their wedding at The Victoria we can highly recommend it. We wanted a friendly, relaxed and personal touch and The Victoria didn't disappoint!
A big thank you to you all!

Staying in a cottage in Bamburgh, we went to the Victoria In search of an alternative to self catering. Not looking for anything fancy, just a good meal at a reasonable price. And this was exactly what we found. So we went back another night (always risky) and were equally happy with our choice.

The menu is varied, the food came promptly without us feeling hurried, and it was hot. We resent paying over the odds at any time, particularly when we're just seeking an alternative to self catering; the Victoria was a real pleasure. The meal was better than the bill would have suggested. That's a winning formula for us. We'll go back.

Just returned from an impromtu visit to Bamburgh,we chose the Victoria for it's location an dog-friendly policy. Unfortunately (because they were attending a funeral) unavoidably most of the staff were missing. However a very helpful young lady who was apparently the chef looked after us very well. The room itself was O.K. if a little tired but the bathroom was very dark and cold(tried changing the thermostat to no avail]. On the first evening the service and food were excellent, however on the second evening the service could have been better,a younger man than the previous evening told us we should have ordered form the bar, then asked if we were residents and which till was used the previous evening all very brusquely, when my husband asked him if he would prefer us to eat elsewhere his attitude changed to being more polite and helpful. I must agree with a previous reviewer the earlier you had breakfast the better it was, also on the first morning all but 1 if the yogurts were 2 days out of date, when mentioned it was dealt with immediately.Although there are negatives the hotel is dog friendly the blazing fire in the bar lovely and very relaxing, most of the staff are helpful 1 or 2 could do with a customer service course.

Dear Dreda117,

Many thanks in taking your time to write a review on the hotel. Can I apologise that you felt there was a lack of staff, we were attending a funeral of a lady from the village who used to visit us daily but I am pleased that a member of staff did look after you well. I would like to comment on the room situation with your issues but as you have not stated which room you were in I can unfortunately not. I am very disappointed with the yoghurts at breakfast were not in the use by date, I have passed this onto the head chef who apologises for this oversight. I am very pleased you enjoyed our real open fire as it is perfect for those winter days and nights. I hope that you will give us the opportunity again to stay with us when you are next in the area.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights. Very well appointed and bedroom (superior double) very comfortable with all amenities. Had four poster bed (room 30) with views of countryside. Bathroom a good size and clean and well appointed. Staff very helpful and polite. Food in the restaurant was excellent and well presented. Breakfast full and hearty. Easy to find hotel and private car park nearby. Bamburgh Castle in walking distance. Will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms 33 and 34 face Bamburgh Castle.

Had two nights here at the end of Nov and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Having read the reviews on here our expectations were that it would be average. Our castle view room (33) was lovely; comfortable, modern decor and spacious. The bathroom was a good size with a large shower and separate jet bath. The view from the room was beautiful. The only thing was the thermostat in the room didn't work and it was like a sauna. Reporting this on day 2 to reception, it was sorted. (Even though they acknowledged that they already knew it was a problem). Dinner in Bailey's both nights was delicious and reasonably priced. Breakfast on the first day was great (it was quiet) but on the Sunday morning it was very busy and chaotic. Plenty of tables free but all still with used crockery on, long wait for order to be taken and tea/coffee and staff appeared frazzled.

Overall though, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we would recommend it and we probably will return.
