Owner description: The King of Castles, a fortification has dominated this site since Anglo-Saxon times when it was the capital of the kingdom of Northumbria. The current structure with Keep, curtain walls, towers and ramparts dates from the 1500's to the Victorian restructuring of Lord Armstrong. There are fourteen rooms open to the public including the spectacular Kings Hall, with over 3000 items of artwork, furniture, china and porcelain. The separate Armstrong and Aviation Artifacts museum gives visitors a glimpse into the creativity and industrial genius of Lord Armstrong. With a look at the aviation legacy created by his company after his death.Cafeteria with great, fresh food and wander around the battlements complete a great day ou.

“A cultural experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2011

Well worth a visit and really easy to get to. Straight up the A1 and turn right or down the A1 and turn left if coming from Scotland. Great beach and coastal walks. Very friendly people. Lots to see in the area. The castle itself is amazing and wonderful for kids interested in history. Very good places to stay in the area. Bamburgh village is small and pictureque and it can get busy so be wary of finding somewhere to park. My only gripe (and it is a major one) is that the public toilets in the village are awful. They have not had any money spent on them for years. But hey gripe over - go and see the castle, you will not be disappointed. RJC.

“A beautiful castle on a hill”

We didn't go into this castle, but the view of it from Seahouses, and on the road from Seahouses to Bamburgh, is great. It's a very impressive looking castle - providing excellent photo opportunities.

“Storybook castle by the sea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2011

You cannot beat the location of this castle. It is definitely worth a visit. I went with my husband, and we enjoyed the State Rooms and the sea views from the castle walls. There is beautiful artwork throughout the castle depicting local scenes. Go for a beach walk after touring the castle so you can see it from the shore below.
