Had a meal here while staying at the Victoria Hotel. Nice Décor. Relaxed atmosphere. Good selection of food and wine, nicely presented, good service.

So disappointing we went for a dining experience for our last night and was not allowed to sit in the restaurant because they had 16 people booked in. The food is the same cooked by the same chef but we had to sit in the bar which was not a good experience. Really stupid as the chef still had the same amount of people to deal with no matter where they sat. We would have had dessert coffee and brandy, but not in the grotty bar !!!!!

My wife and I visited the restaurant for an evening meal recently, we had to book and on arriving early were asked to wait in the bar and someone would come and collect us, no one came so we went through, we were seated quickly and our order was taken quickly, the restaurant was clean and well presented, the food was delivered in a decent time and was hot and very flavoursome.
Staff were attentive but not intrusive, all in all it was a very nice meal in pleasant location with good staff.
I would recommend the restaurant to anyone for a meal.

We weren't staying in the hotel but booked earlier the same day and got a table in the restaurant rather than the bar area. Having said that, the bar area was really nice too and was very busy. The service was excellent - friendly, prompt and no pressure - and the food was really good. I had the chicken with risotto and king scallop and would definitely recommend it. The quality of the food was a pleasant surprise and the bill was too, extremely good value for money - so good that we had a few extra drinks!

Sunday lunch very good value - £10.95 for two courses with children half price - allegedly. On paying it was pointed out that the child's meal had to go in the till as one adult course (8.95). So half of £10.95 is £8.95 in Victoria hotel meal calculations!! Its a long time since I went to school but that is way above the verbally advised "half price". A similar thing happened two weeks earlier on a Saturday when buying child meal for £5 and attempting to buy a dessert for a child to be charged £6 (both prices were 5p less to be exact). I have no complaint about the adult prices or the quality of the food but this hotel needs to be clearer about child prices. I won't be returning even though the food is actually very good and I spend most weekends in Bamburgh.
