The hotel was good value for money, great location for beach and centre of Bamburgh. Don't eat at the Forsters Hotel/restaurant, horrible food and no atmosphere. Do eat at Blacketts, lovely food, service and nice friendly atmosphere.

Didnt stay in the hotel this time bud did pop in for evening bar meal on Monday 2nd Aug 2010 with wife and kids. Only one memeber of staff seen who was acting as sole barmaid and waitress and later as mediator. Flatulent dog belonging to guests a few tables from us frequently released clouds of unpleasant fumes that travelled all the way to tables at the top of the room. The regular emmissions of foul stench were ignored by the dogs owners despite children at all tables complaining in loud voice at the offputing pong. Barmaid kindly opened some windows at my request to help alleviate the stench. Food ordered took over an hour to arrive at out table despite being relatively simple pizza and fish and chips.Other tables who ordered before us took even longer and at least one family with 3 young (very patient given the wait) children left before they completely lost the will to live waiting foir their meal. The long wait really spoiled the experince for us though the food was nice when it arrived. Put us off returning for the weekend to stay in the hotel ginven the poor service. I did request that my round of drinks be free to us given poor experinece which was agreed to. Very disappointed with this experience and would not return there.

We recently spent 3 nights B&B (at £100/night) and were not impressed. Very expensive for what it was, basically a Travelodge with a much smaller room. They conveniently charged my card with the full 3 nights before we arrived, perhaps they were expecting people to try to cut short their stay.

Room (newish, in recent extension) was VERY small. Bathroom ditto. Both reasonably new but bathroom not very clean at all. Areas of tiling covered in soap/toothpaste/whatever splashes and never cleaned. Towels not changed in 3 days, and both cups and bathroom mugs not clean. Oh yes, a wardobe with a rail at about 2 metres high. I am not that short and it was a real stretch to reach a hanger. Anyone under about 5'6" would have a problem.

No lounge, just a public bar that doubles as a restaurant and residents space. Ambiance nil points. Dogs welcome (but not by me !) Food was just about acceptable on the first night, the rest of the time we ate elsewhere ! I really don't want strangers dogs poking around my table when I'm eating dinner.

Oh yes, it's right beside a building site, so expect diggers/concrete mixers and general mayhem from 7:30am onwards.

I will not be going back !

Very relaxed & informal atmosphere, Room very clean. Separate toilet and shower room both had new tiling to a high standard - again very clean.
Dogs are allowed & both of ours were made very wellcome.
Highly recommended to those who are looking for a hotel that takes dogs but would equally suit those that don't need this requirement.
Will be visiting again.

Stayed in a so called superior room at £110 a night and couldn't believe how bad it was.
Dirty skirting boards, stained chairs, ripped quilt, damp stains on the walls and chipped paint everywhere. Plumbing that didn't work, mouldy beakers, raw sausages and fried eggs broken all over your plate, need I go on!! BUT OH YES I DO!!!
This place is a haven for the dog fraternity.
Of the 8 or so rooms that were let when we stayed at least 6 were occupied by people who had dogs.
Our room had distinct paw prints all over it and when we went down into the so called 'Bistro Bar' three dogs were sprawled out under the tables. As if this wasn't a bad enough problem -the day had been wet and so as the night went on and our meal came it also came with a distinct smell of dogs.
We mentioned this to the receptionist but we were told that the pet owner market is what they target so I can only assume the good reviews are written by pet owners. Needless to say we ate out after that.
So if like us you believe hotels are for people and kennels are for dogs I strongly suggest you give this place a wide berth.
This place may well have been renovated in 2008 but I could almost guarantee that not one penny has been spent on it since.

When we arrived we were greeted by a pleasant young man, although we don't know if he was the owner or a barman, who showed us to our rooms.

The rooms were clean, pleasant and a reasonable size.

We booked evening meal - this was in the bar not the restaurant, The meal was a great disappointment, the fish was all batter with a thin strip of dried fish in the middle - we believe this was fish which had been previously fried, rebattered and fried again - whatever this was the worst fried battered fish we have ever been served up - ever. The pork with apricots lacked the apricots and the mashed potatoes was a runny liquid.
The cooked full English breakfast was soaked in fat and scrambled egg was slimey.
I can only speak as I find.

At the time of our visit, mid June, there was house building to the rear of the hotel and access to the building site was from the front of the hotel. Also there was a digger working across the road, Consequently from about 7.20 a.m. there was the noise of builders' wagons, a dumper truck, the digger etc and dust. We had pre booked this hotel and we should have been warned that it was situated in the middle of a building site which started work at 7.30 a.m.

Mention is made in other reviews about the husband & wife owners who had made guests very welcome - we never knowingly met them.

We were very disappointed with our stay at this hotel, once the building site has finished it could be a good hotel but the kitchen really needs to buck its ideas up and live up to the claims made about the meals, every time. At the prices charged for b & b the standards shoulod be a lot higher.

We stayed for a 2 night short break whilst exploring the Northumbrian coastline and its impressive castles and beautiful scenery. As noted elsewhere, the hotel has been recently renovated and our room was spacious, comfortable and immaculate - as was the rest of the hotel. We had a lovely view over farmland to the sea at Seahouses and the hotel itself is just a few minutes walk from Bamburgh's imposing castle and its extensive beach.

The food was excellent - especially the belly-busting full English breakfast - and the staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and they went out of their way to ensure that we had a great time. We thoroughly enjoyed the live music played by Ken, Terry and Ange on the Saturday evening - which catered for a wide range of musical tastes and was the unexpected highlight of our trip. It wasa wonderful evening - completely unplanned - but one that will stay with us for a long, long time to come.
