We've just enjoyed a lovely Easter break with my elderly parents at Budle Hall, and can honestly say we can't wait to go back.
Lots of lovely homely touches and lovely, big rooms with lots of communal space to spread out. Yes, as other reviewers have said, the upgrades that the new owners are doing will take time, but the essence of the place is old-fashioned charm and comfort. Little touches such as hot water bottles being popped into everyone's beds (my 82 year old mother couldn't stop herself exclaiming how delightful that was) mean that this is as far away from a corporate venue as you can get ..... And it's all the more wonderful for that! Water pressure in our en-suite could have been stronger, but the memory of watching the new born lambs and hens wandering around as we enjoyed afternoon tea in the garden from bone china cups, with solid silver bowls and homemade cake will stay with me longer than a few slow showers!
The hosts were incredibly solicitous re our comfort, offering to light fires late in the evening in case we were cold, and help my father up the grenade central staircase. Really very welcoming, and in such a beautiful location. A great Easter break, and really looking forward to our next trip.More
