Just enjoyed a short break at this quaint old fashioned hotel. What a delight it was, made very welcome, staff really courteous, friendly and cheerful. Bar a little on the small side and very popular with the locals, good choice of beers. Pretty beer garden to the rear of the property. Breakfast was excellent as were the meals in the restaurant, extremely fast efficient service. Good sized portions - Friday night 'Steak Night' is a must, £10 for an 8oz sirloin and a drink of your choice. Nice large very clean bedroom, bathroom big - hot water plentiful providing you give it time to come through. Hotel does need some refurbishment - but a delight to stay in would certainly recommend and if in the area book in again.

Excellent accomodation - dated, but it is an old Hotel.
Comfortable. Spacious. Clean. Staff attentive and efficient.
Excellent restaurant menu. Meals well presented and with large portions. Even though busy during our stay, there was no delay between courses. Excellent choices for breakast.
Would definitely go there again.
Highly recommended.

When you first walk in you get the smell of stale beer and fried oil as the bar is at the front. The reception was ok. Thankfully the room we stayed in appeared to be recently decorated so it was nice. The heating was not working and were told that they couldn't get the engineers out until Monday and were provided initially with a faulty electric heater. The next day we were then given another heater which worked. The food in the resturant was not too bad. I don't think I'd be going again though.

The hotel is an oddity basically the decor is dated and needs upgrading, the food is very good.
The room, large, clean but very dated furniture, tv old with poor reception, bathroom old and tired. We had no heating contacted reception and a heater was delivered. Bed had very cheap mattress, requested a room change , was advised only annex available and having read reviews decided not to take that option. We had no hot water for all three nights and had to use the shower only.
The main problem seems to be that there is no management on hand to take care of the problems, all our complaints were answered by "I'm sorry there is no on here that can deal with this" leaving the staff embarrassed.Below our room was the bar chiller which kept cutting in and out all night....very annoying.
The catering staff on the other hand worked very hard and the standard of food was very good.
We went on a living social deal and if the issues had been resolved it would have been good value. Come on management....help your staff out

Just come back from short break at this hotel. Situated in small rural village. Bedroom spotlessly clean with a tv that actually had good reception (not like many hotels were it's 'snowing' all the time!). No need to take hairdryer as there was a great one (even better than my own). The staff were very friendly and courteous and very willing to help with my enquiries. Bar area, comfortable and casual, not 'posh' but very homely (used by locals).
Food and service in the dining room were excellent. Good all round experience. In a great area too with many places to visit such as Alnwick Castle, Holy Island, Bamborough etc etc. Would definitely go again if visiting this area again.

We booked and were given two rooms in the annex which were dirty and damp and smelly.
We complained and asked for two more rooms but were told there were none available until the following night.
There was no duty manager to attend to our complaints however the staff present were great but could do more without a manager (whom they phoned at home but did not attend)
I cannot make a comment on the food as we refused to stay and therefore did not dine there.
We were on a KGB deal (does anybody check hotel standards before advertising these deals ?) and were told by the hotel that we would have to try and get a refund from them.

Room Tip: Rooms in the annex are poor

The Blue Bell is an old coaching inn from the 1700s so it is old and quaint. It is a wee bit tired but as I said its is old so I can forgive that. The room was fine and comfy (room 9). The food was good and very good priced. Steak night if friday at £10 for a steak and a pint it was good value andnot a litle scrappy steak either. I have read revies heer and some people seem to expect a lot for the money. We paid through KGB deal £55 for two for tow nights B+B waht more can you wnat for that money. There wa slaos a voucher for a free bottle of wine if you dien and have two courses, once again a bargain. All in all a good base to travel about the area.

Room Tip: Room 9 was fine i dont think many of the room differ..
