We recently stayed at Purdy Lodge for one night as we were attending a wedding nearby at Doxford Hall. We got there late afternoon and sat in the bar and had some pub food, very nice it was too. There's a restaurant attached to the bar too which was quite busy and food did smell good. There seemed to be a lot famillies there who had been before so the food is obviously good.
24hr cafe attached to the hotel which got very busy, this was handy for when we came back late at night and fancied a hot chocolate and some nibbles. Be aware though, if a coach turns up you could be in the queue for about 40 mins as there is only member of staff at night, lovely guy though but seemed run off his feet. Good selection of bites to eat in cafe.
Nice comfortable rooms with lovely views of the fields. Room very quiet too considering hotel on a very busy road.
Would definitely re-visit.

Good family friendly hotel in a good location for exploring Northumberland. Although situated on busy A1 all rooms face the back looking over fields to the sea. Excellent, good value food in the bar and restaurant.

We wanted a hotel that was centrel for what we wanted to do on our family holiday. The hotel staff are very friendly the bar food is excellent very value for money. We enjoyed out food each night. The brekki is basic but just what you need. The rooms are far to hot as windows are locked so not easy in the night when you want to open them. The rooms could do with a bit of tlc but that would not stop us wanting to return.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to read about the difficulty that you had with the window locks. All of our windows have locks for our guests safety and there is instructions on how to operate these locks in the rooms; i am sorry if that information was not apparent. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed your food that you had with us in the bar and look forward to seeing you again in the future.

We spent 3 nights here for a short break with my elderly parents. One of the main criteria selection was that my dad has mobility issues and we need ground floor accommodation without excessive walking to the facilities. This place meets that entirely. The accommodation block is within a few metres of the reception area and room 1 is a designated disabled access room. We took that although, in truth, any of the ground floor rooms would have been appropriate.
The rooms are reasonably sized and pleasantly appointed but there is no getting away from the fact that they are need of some TLC in terms of decoration and maintenance. We had a king-sized bed which was great and the view across corn fields towards Bamburgh Castle is fantastic. On the downside, I suspect the accommodation block is timber-framed and everything is now a bit creaky. Equally, we arrived over a really hot weekend and the rooms were very warm.
The hotel has a good-value bar and restaurant although we found the menu a bit limited. We used the restaurant twice but went out on the third evening. Breakfast is excellent, fruit, cereals, full English, toast, juice, coffee &tea. The hotel is right on the side of the A1 for ease of access (surprisingly little road noise - rooms are on the back of the hotel facing towards the coastline) and the location is excellent for visiting the likes of Bamburgh, Holy Island etc. One of the best things was the staff - the girls in reception and serving in the bar, restaurant and at breakfast are really friendly (like everyone in the north-east) and nothing is too much trouble.
All in all we enjoyed our stay. We loved Northumberland and intend to be back and wouldn't hesitate in staying here again. That said, there is no getting away from the fact that the rooms are definitely in need of a touch up.

We stayed here for a couple of nights (double plus a family room) to be near the Northumberland coast. The Lodge is located next to a petrol station on a busy A1, not exactly a holiday destination. But it was a great base (the coast is only a short ride away) and the bedrooms are all located on the side away from the road, overlooking fields and with Bamburgh castle in the far distance: very quiet. In the past we have stayed in Bamburgh itself, but rooms can be very pricey there.

The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful: full marks to them.

The rooms we had were also clean and comfortable, although getting a little tired (e.g. some black mould around the bath). Breakfast was in a very pleasant dining room. It was a pity that only a traditional cooked breakfast was available (at least that was all we were offered). Why not, for example, smoked salmon and scambled eggs? And could the cereals be supplemented with some fruit options? What about croissants? (Compare Premier Inn breakfasts!)

Overall, this was very reasonable value for money and we would stay here again.

If you like Travelodge-type hotels, you will be happy. We were however quite dissapointed with our stay. The staff wasn't helpful and didn't even smile at us. Our family room was small, and the ''view'' was just of a field. You need binoculars to see Bamburgh (which is supposed to be the view). It is just by the A1, which we didn't expect. We went to the restaurant and the food was bland and below average. All four of us were dissapointed, and we eventually booked somewhere else for our second night instead.

Room Tip: Don't get a family room for 4 adults...!

We chose the hotel as it was between places we were visiting (Alnwick and Lindisfarne). It was an unusual place as it was also like a service station and obviously a popular truck stop too,
The staff were friendly and it was good value for money. The room was clean but a little dated and very very hot. We had taken our own fan and we used it. In fairness it was during a heatwave, but it would have been nice if the hotel had provided fans.
Bathroom was clean but again dated and the towels were very thin. The shower was dire - little more than a dribble.
There is a bar and restaurant and also a 24 hour cafe. The food was good.
Service was good.
There were great views over fields at the back

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back. That way you would not be on the main road and the back has lovely count...
