“Great facilities and location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

YHA Berwick provides really good accommodation, and facilities in an amazing location - not many hostels or hotels can boast a door in the sea wall, taking you straight onto the historic quayside, or have a gallery in the hostel. Friendly staff, the dining looked good though we didn't use it. You are 1hr from Edinburgh or half an hour from Bamburgh or Holy Island.

I stayed here with my husband and parents. We were given a big en-suite room on the courtyard. The place was excellent in terms of facilities and ambiance. Also its on the river bank which means one can spend an evening on the banks if the weather permits. We used the self catering kitchen which is on the top floor of the main building. Kitchen was well equipped and had enough stock to cater to multiple families cooking at a go (in morning there were at least 4 separate groups cooking breakfast). Also a lounge next to the kitchen is a great place to enjoy some relaxing time (we watched the world cup semis here). Very satisfying stay and the stay was very helpful. Special note for the Latte we ordered in the evening for the yha cafe was really good!

We booked for 42 of us to stay after a sponsored walk. Perfect place to stay. Wish we had booked tea here as we had awful experience in town. Breakfast was brilliant and staff very helpful. Will definately be back but wont be walking the 26 miles to get there next time x

We have been YHA members for many years and when the special offer Green flash sale all bookings to be made in the next 70 hours, we went ahead and booked for two nights....very posh as we booked the en suite room. Really upmarket place including an all day café which locals are welcome to use. We booked breakfast which was perhaps the best cooked breakfast we have ever had. Day two I ordered a small breakfast. If you want to self cater, there is a good members kitchen. I totally applaud the hostel for having subtitles on the silent television showing BBC news. An excellent idea allowing people to either watch or socialize with the other members.
The YHA are providing an excellent service to Senior citizens who use the hostels as a base for their walking and outdoor activities. The weather was good, the food was good and the other hostellers had plenty of tales to tell. of course the situation is ideal. Good tip for those using public transport......the local buses travel to several places and we were told by the ladies who used the bus that their bus passes were acceptable even though they travelled over the border into Scotland.

Room Tip: The YHA allocate rooms to suit your needs. There is a lift which is better than many hotel lifts.

The staff were very friendly and well located for the town centre and my grandparents live around the corner. The internet access was very useful and the free wi fi also. They made me a vegetarian breakfast which was cooked well by the chef. There is an art gallery on the second floor called the granary where I got a warm welcome and had interesting displays. They had a bar and other facilities on the ground floor which was useful there is also an entertainment lounge on the fifth floor and a kitchen too. The room was basic but had a comfy bed and traffic free and shower facilities and it is all also useful for the walls walk.

Room Tip: Book in advance and buy a single room for the night.

Until my recent two night stay at the YHA at Berwick, I have never considered staying at a youth hostel, as I thought they were for the under 25's or the not so discerning traveller and would be a bit smelly, grubby and not stylist, or comfortable in the least and certainly not for us over 50's.

What a pleasant surprise the hostel was stylish, very comfortable and full of character. My husband and I stayed in a private room with a double bed with a single bunk above with a bathroom on suite. The accommodation was modern and excellent, the double bunk bed was very comfortable with a light and socket on the wall which enabled me to watch a film on my tablet in bed. The communal facilities like the rest of the hostel was very clean with numerous self catering kitchens, a drying room, washing machine, comfy sofas, television, computers and free wifi in the communal areas . The hostel is in a excellent location to the town with parking right outside the door. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful, advising us were the best pubs where in Berwick and all the restaurants. I like a continental breakfast which they provided lovely warm croissants and pain de chocolate they also do full English breakfast too!

As for the price on offer for £67 for two night brilliant! will be checking out some other hostel's if this is the standard.
