This place has everything - quirky character-laden decor, great choice of cask-conditioned ales, all in tip-top condition when I visited, with the bonus of BrewDog's superb craft-keg beers as well. No mega-brewery's design department could replicate a place like this - you have to let it grow organically and I hope the interior is listed! They seemed to be adding a minimalist industrial-style bar when I visited to add to the eclectic assortment.. If you are in Berwick and you love beer, don't miss the Barrel.

Berwick like so many towns as seen hard times lately and a lot of the old boozers have gone or have been convereted into plastic theme plaaces, a bit like cinderellas castle at Disneyland.
Not the barrels! It survives because it knows what the customers want! Good beer and a smashing craik! Music nights are always heaving and most Fridays and Saturdays are more than busy- but the occasional wait for a decent pint (usually 5 hand pulled beers to choose from) is well worth it!
Now get down there; sup up; and enjoy!

This small pub crams in plenty of character, including an old dentists' chair at the bar! Despit it being an off-season mid-week evening when we visited there were plenty of other customers; locals and tourists have all made it a favourite.

Great pub on the border with a local flair and welcoming crowd. The pub has some history, nostalgic decorations on the walls, and dentist chair at the bar. The selection of beers was excellent and included some rotating beers on tap. Rikki the bartender had some tasty craft beer on tap. If in Berwick upon Tweed or in need of a pint while on the road I would certainly not pass up the opportunity to visit the Barrels Ale House. Cheers

Great friendly pub-full of interesting pieces and well decorated. Good choice of beers, welcoming atmosphere. We went in pre-football (away supporters) and were welcomed with the offer of a free bacon roll with our beers; we returned later that night and had an enjoyable evening. Mixed crowd, mixed ages; which adds to experience. Will definitely return when we visit Berwick again
