Had a really wonderful day out today at Paxton House. I am not a big fan of guided tours. I prefer to walk through sites at my own pace. However, the guided tour today was extremely informative and the guide himself was very entertaining and extremely knowledgeable. The house itself was beautiful and well worth a visit..

As the weather was so lovely, we had a great walk around the grounds and walked the 1 mile to the Union Chain Suspension Bridge and then on the Honey Farm. Fabulous day out!

We look forward to going again at Christmas.

We had a lovely day out at Paxton House yesterday. We have been staying in Berwick upon Tweed and were able to get a bus at eleven that stopped at the house and one home at just after 4 pm. The journey was less than 20 minutes. Once there we were warmly greeted. We began with a tour of the house. The guide was excellent and vey knowledgable. The experience was far more intimate than tours of "grander" houses such as Chatsworth were you do feel like you are on some kind of conveyer belt. Here we took a leisurely stroll around the house taking about 15 minutes. We then had lunch at the Stables, the food was nice, a little pricey, but in the context of the whole day out it was excellent value for money. It was a sunny day and were able to enjoy the extensive grounds and walk down by the Tweed. Indeed, I would be happy to visit again just for the peace and solitude of the grounds themselves. All in all, a good day out!

This is a very good tour with an informative guide. The tour covered in detail the history of the house and its occupants and the exhibits of furniture and paintings well worth the entrance fee.
We visited the tea room before our tour, the food was good but we found the beverages and cakes expensive. Certainly worth a visit, but eat elsewhere.

It has the largest Chippendale collection in Scotland and some of the rooms are breathtaking. The guided tour took about 90 mins and was very interesting.

Visited with a 3 year old and he was kept amused throughout the tour of the house by trying to spot the teddy bears in each room. The house is relatively small but the tour takes in most of the house and last a good hour. The tour guide was very informative and the history interesting. The tea room is in the stables and very authentic. The best bit is the walks around the grounds by the river and the kids play area, if the weather is nice you can easily make a day of it here. If you are stating locally the can spend 1 or 2 pounds extra on the admission and get entry for 14 days, bargain as I would have went back if it was our last day on holiday. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
