“Brilliant Stay!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2012

My husband and I recently stayed here using a groupon offer and we were very much looking forward to it... and we werent dissapointed!! We received a brilliant service from the minute we walked through the door as we were greeted by the very friendly receptionist. This great customer care was continued throughout the hotel, including the restaurant staff and housekeeping (as well as the gentleman gardening in the hotel grounds!) To add to our brilliant stay we were upgraded to a state room which was lovely! Would like to thank all the staff for giving us such a memorable weekend away. We hope to return in the near future!

We stayed in this amazing Country Hotel on May Bank Holiday weekend, superb in every way!
The hotel is stunning as are the grouds it stands in, right next to the River Till.
Lovely walks, we even came accross a deer while we were walking from the hotel to nearby Twizel castle.

The hotel oozes character and charm with lots of interesting rooms to sit and relax in. It felt like we were staying in a stately home filled with antiques and paintings, but without the stuffiness and snobbery! The open fires create a relaxing and cosy atmosphere especially in the bar with a nice glass of red.

The dining room has wonderful views over the grounds, food is AMAZING with fantastic 5* service. The staff were always helpful and attentive and very friendly.

We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms, the Castle Room, and it is huge with a seating area. high ceilings and a large window looking out over the front of the hotel towards Twizel castle.
A big bathroom with fluffy white bathrobes and towels, toiletries, tissue boxes, cotton wool, all the little touches that make all the difference.

The hotel is well based for visiting this beautiful part of Northumberland with plenty of sightseeing and an abundance of walks. They also cater well for fishing with a separate rod room, although we didn't use this, it's a definite plus for those who would.

I could literally go on and on about this hotel as it is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The only fault I could say is the price of the wine with the evening meal (£24 a bottle), but it was very good! (Sainsbury's wine deals have spoilt us for anywhere now!).

We will be back, if you book you will not be disappointed. FABULOUS!!!!

Room Tip: Well worth a little extra to stay in the deluxe rooms.

I have always wanted to visit this County House - friends and family had recommended it. From arrival it was first class. The staff were friendly and very informative of the surrounding areas and the food was truly gorgeous. We had a very chilled time and the grounds were lovely to get lost in. Deer came right up to the front of the house. We will definitely be booking again .

Room Tip: We upgraded to the Dovecote Room which had a Four Poster Bed and a lovely view of the castle.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in April on a groupon voucher. For what we paid on the offer we wouldn't have minded how good a hotel it was but the whole two days was fanstatic. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, had everything you required even lovley white towelling dressing robes. The food was amazing, we had our meals for the two nights in the restaurant, not included in the deal, but was excellent value for money. The breakfast was the best cooked breakfast we have had in ages, cooked to perfection. The staff, all english!!, were brilliant, they really seemed interested when asking what your day had been like. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. We will definatley be visiting this hotel again, with or without a Groupon Voucher, because its such a lovely, peaceful, inspiring place.

Room Tip: We were in room 12 on the top floor, spacious and quiet. No lift so a lot of stairs to climb, but we...

Just returned from a second stay at this hotel and cannot stress enough how enjoyable and relaxing it is. The location is fabulous, ideal for short walks around the hotel grounds or longer walks around Cornhill and Berwick. The hotel staff are so friendly and helpful without being to instrusive and the breakfast is all local produce and very tasty also an execellent evening meal menu.
We were lucky enough to stay in Garden Suite 2 which is a stone cottage next to the hotel. The room was enormous with a modern clean bathroom.
This was a groupon offer which made it very affordable and we will be looking for other deals which will allow us to stay here again as the normal rack rate is too expensive for us.
Thanks again to the staff for a lovely stay!!

Room Tip: Ask for the Garden Suite for a real treat !!!

I booked this hotel for a break with my husband. I was a bit dubious and read lots of the reviews. the majority were very good but a few were bad. Once i stepped through the door i was breathless. it was beautiful. people who said it was dark and gloomy must not realise what atmosphere is. the oil paitings on the walls, the decor, it was just lovely. when you enter the lobby you step down to the reception where around the corner is a cosy bar with an open fire. in the bar there were lots of photos on the walls of people who came to fish. The staff were happy to book a day and organise gear hire to do salmon fishing. there was an oportinuty to go shooting on private land near by and if you were luck to catch a salmon they would get it smoked and sent to you at home!
Once we were given our room key we were asked if they could help with our bags. We were in the state, sir walter scott room which was up a grand staircase to the second floor.
As the house was rebuilt in the 1800's it has an original gothic feel.
on the 1st floor you walked through double stained glass doors in to the first lounge where there is a large open fireplace. There was a choice of magazines from vogue to country living and a billiards room, tv room and then the dining room.
The state room that we stayed in was huge! the fourposter bed was lovely and clean and the room was spotless, we were given bathrobes which were also beautifuly clean and the bathroom was lovely. The stay was peaceful and relaxing, the food was five star (- try the orange icecream and chocolate fondant) and the staff were very professional and happy.
The only thing i would suggest would be take your laptop to watch some movies as the tv is pretty small and only has a few channels but thats not what we came to do so it didnt bother us.
The hotel is and hour and a half from Edinburgh's sherif's hall park and ride (remember the busses only take change and it was 1 pound 50 return) through picturesque countyside, we seen deer when driving back and Edninburgh is a lovely place to visit too.
We are both 26 years old and found it to be a very romantic venue.

Room Tip: i believe there are smoking rooms available if your a smoker. I booked this break through groupon an...
