“Amazing cottage in beautiful location”
Reviewed 29 December 2016 for a stay in December 2016

Well what can I say, if you like the country life and are looking for somewhere to get away from it all "This is the perfect location and place to stay" We had the entire detached cottage to ourselves, made a change really as we have children and sometimes worry if the children are playing to loud, normally concerned about neighbors or other guest within the vicinity. Absolutely no worry about that at this booking, its a solid stone built cottage sat out the way with its own driveway and gardens, the owners only live over the road too, so are at hand if help is needed. We really appreciated the chocolates and free bottle of wine and the already lit log burning stove, All me and my family did from the day we arrived was compliment our stay, we really couldn't fault it.

We will definitely be booking this again and only wish we could of stayed longer, one more thing, if you are into stargazing you are in for a treat on a clear night. You could clearly see the milky way with the naked eye, even the dust cloud. I only wish I brought my telescope :) next to no light pollution so amazing on that perspective

See you very soon Loanview

Having spent a lovely week at this beautiful spot last year, we decided to try an early autumn break. Once again we were not disappointed. The cottage is such a quiet and cosy retreat, well equipped, and beautifully cared for. Sadly Pamela was away but daughter Sue made sure we were managing, and the eggs, wine and plums were well appreciated.
We enjoyed day trips around the area, cosy nights by the fire, and dark starry skies, the like of which is city dwellers never see.
It would be true to say we are both planning a return to the cottage next year please...

“Disappointed”
Reviewed 1 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Having read the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor about this holiday home we were really looking forward to our stay. We were very disappointed. The cottage has, at one time, been very lovely but is now in need of updating and at least a really good clean. We were greated by flying ants on the bedroon window net. The owner quickly got some spray and made sure they were cleaned away. We were not bothered by them again during our stay. However, we were bothered by many other creepy crawlies. Black beetles, spiders, earwigs and numerous woodlice. Cobwebs were in abundance. We were assured by the owner the whole place had been cleared of them the morning of our arrival but our findings of cobwebs did not back that up. They said it was a characteristic of the countryside. We agree with this to an extent but there were so many it made us uncomfortable. We spent our first night hoovering the place. The next day we went out to buy some ant and fly killer.
There was a damp smell in the bedroom and all our clothes had a foisty smell when we got home.
The area was beautiful and we were blessed with lovely weather. The owners were nice and tried to make us welcome. The wood burning stove was lovely and the cottage is well equipped.
It has to be said we are not in the habit of complaining but in this case we feel it necessary to say something.

I am sorry your stay at Loanview was not up to your expectations.
The family before you left the cottage in emmaculate condition. The lady had been a housekeeper for a number of years and I am sure would have mentioned if she had had any of your problems.
I cleaned the bedroom window that morning and left the window ajar and on hearing of your distress I promptly went for the relevant spray. There was no reason to buy more as after spraying and killing all the flying ants I removing the curtain for cleaning. I left the spray can and a container of powder. The ants were In-between the window and the voile curtain and not in the room.
All walls and ceilings are brushed down and cobwebs are removed before the next visitor but spiders just spin another web, as you noticed on your car. You said you cleaned them off every morning. Earwigs and wood lice live in logs and vegetation they do not harm people, they are just a nuisance. There are insects and spiders in the countryside and many are brought into the home by pets.
The weather was lovely but it is always better to have windows open a little to let the air circulate. I did note that you never had a window open even though it was very humid.
I'm glad you enjoyed the woodburning stove.
Everyone that has stayed at Loanview has mentioned how clean it is and no one has had any of the issues you mention.
Obviously we did not try hard enough to make you welcome and I apologise for that but a country holiday is not for everyone.
It would be curtious if visitors informed us of any further problems before leaving.

“Welcoming”
Reviewed 28 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Lovely, cosy, character cottage. Very clean and excellent supply of kitchen equipment, towels and blankets. Welcoming open fire which the children enjoyed toasting marshmallows on. Fantastic, large enclosed grass paddock for ball games and the dog to run free in. Pamela & Jim the owners are so lovely and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, even providing fresh eggs from their chickens. This cottage is a little gem in a beautiful part of Northumberland. Lots of places and beautiful beaches to visit within easy driving distance, and would highly recommend staying there.

Reviewed 13 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Well where do I start .We traveled down from Inverness an the journey took about 5 1/2 to 6 hours .My satnav took us into Cornhill-On-Tweed and up a hill .If you are using a satnav DO NOT go up the hill , the cottage is across the road from the hill , stupid satnav ha ha .When we found the cottage we were warmly greeted by Pamela and her husband Jim , I had a nice chat to Jim whilst Pamela showed the rest of my family around .The rooms are very spacious and all towels are supplied .The cottage is well equipped with washing machine , cooker ect and there is a dining table in the living room which sits 6 people .Each day we were out exploring and each evening it was so so lovely to light the wood burning fire/stove and was told upon arrival to burn as much wood as we needed .Jim and Pamela have a small allotment and we were given some lovely potatoes and beetroots , yum yum and thank you and also on arriving back on Thursday from a day out even a lovely bottle of wine .Jim and Pamela were more like friends than owners .Would I stay here again , the answer is a BIG yes , we all loved it .Thank you Jim and Pamela for a lovely stay in your beautiful cottage .

“Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed 7 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We've just returned from a wonderful week at Loanview. The cottage was clean and had all we needed for a very comfortable stay for 6 adults. We really enjoyed the log burner in the evening as it was a little chilly. Pamela and Jim we're welcoming, friendly and helpful. A good location for visiting Berwick upon Tweed, Bamburgh, Holy Island and small towns on the Scottish boarder with easy access to Edinburgh. We had a lovely day at Cragside House and on our way home visited Hadrians wall.

“"Keep the home fires burning!"”
Reviewed 25 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Lovely big woodburner kept the hot water lovely and hot, and radiators radiating, and gave a lovely atmosphere to the evenings. We were extremely lucky with the weather in April, beautiful blue skies, making every visit to the seaside, castles or moorlands enjoyable with stunning views. Lots of history everywhere for all the family, and a great little village shop in Cornhill (with wifi!) supplying great pies and picnic fodder, complemented by the long opening hours of the big Sainsbury's in Kelso (open till 10pm on Sundays).
In the house we were off the grid, didn't use the TV, not much of a mobile signal for some, but it was a great break from all that. The attic bedroom was a bit low for our 25 year old, and the staircase is very steep, but would be great for kids. If I could have changed one thing it would be to have taken my own favourite frying pan, but otherwise the cottage is very well equipped and the owners are very close by in case of any questions.
An early morning trip to the bathroom revealed a hedgehog foraging just outside the kitchen window for at least 15 minutes - an extra treat.

Dear Julia
Thank you for your review, I am glad you enjoyed your stay in Loanview and were able to explore so much of Northumberland.
I am sorry the frying pan missed inspection, you should have said as I have a spare.
It is lovely to see hedgehogs around the place, we have one in the bottom field and is not bothered if the dogs are there.
I hope we will see you again sometime, there is so much to see in this area.

Kind regards to all
Pamela
