We have visited the Tankerville Arms a few times as the choice of restaurants in the locality is limited. Sunday 6th April was our third visit for Sunday lunch. The staff are friendly but when we asked for a Campari/Soda the reply was we "only have Soda". On further enquiries it transpired that they did have a bottle of Campari and we were duly served. The roast beef was served swimming in gravy - it could have passed for a stew and was accompanied with under-cooked (and I don't mean al dente) vegetables, which consisted of two servings of roast/fried potatoes. The dessert was good. Once again the bill was presented as a total figure and when asked if it could be itemised - was an impossibility. This happened last time we visited (during a three month period) and the same excuse was offered - "the till is broken". This is unacceptable and I suspect illegal. George needs to buy or get the till repaired.

Northumberland is not a county rich in good restaurants however The Tankerville Arms at Eglingham is a perfectly reasonable place to eat both in terms of a bar meal or in the restaurant and is obviously very popular with the locals. The service in the restaurant is very friendly and pleasant but uninformed. The food is wholesome, the vegetable soup being particularly good. The roast beef is just adequate but one is not asked how one would like it. The wine list is very limited with no vintage years given. It seems to be impossible to get a properly itemised bill, which is poor. (The Church nearby – St Maurice – is well worth a visit.)

No wonder this place is getting such good reviews, we had a really lovely stay there on Thursday 17th April, the whole experience was top notch, George met us at the door, took our cases upstairs for us and explained the Health and Safety of the building, We stayed in the suite which was furnished beautifully and the room was huge with all the little touches that make for a comfortable stay, the bed was super king and very, very comfortable. They had saved a table for us for dinner and breakfast, the food was delightfuly and beautifully cooked and presented, George and the girls were very attentive without being pushy. This lovely building was full of character with a friendly ambiance. If you want to know how to run a small friendly, clean hotel then this should be your benchmark. Thank you we will definately be back.

Twixt The Cheviot & the Sea, Eglingham is a beautiful location & "The Tankey" is a warm and inviting pub/restaurant within this setting. George is an excellent host and the service is courteous and attentive. A good choice of meals is on offer and did not disappoint. Would thoroughly recommend!

My friend and I were visiting Northumberland for a couple of days and were very lucky to find the Tankerville Arms had a room for one night due to a cancellation. We arrived around 5.30pm after having been in Alnwick looking around Barters Books, a must see. We enjoyed a drink in the lovely bar and chatted to residents then had dinner which was delicious! Our room was the Gold room which was very tastefully furnished with en-suite. We were off early in the morning but hoping George would tell us that he had another cancellation so we could stay another night, alas he didn't! We would certainly recommend Tankerville Arms and can't wait to return.
