“Fantastic stay and welcoming hosts and staff, as always”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

My husband and I recently returned to The Ship as we do every year to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We actually got married on the Island and had our wedding lunch and evening celebrations in The Ship - we could not have chosen a better venue!

Andrew, Janice and all The Ship staff looked after us incredibly well! They pay the same level of attention and customer service to everyone who visits the pub, regardless of whether they're room guests or not.

It's such a shame to read negative reviews here but of course, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. All I would say to anyone who's thinking about visiting the Island and going to The Ship is please don't let these negative opinions put you off. The Ship staff and owners are so friendly and welcoming when they are treated with the respect they deserve!

From personal experience, we cannot recommend them enough and we just love our annual trip to The Ship on Holy Island. If we were closer we'd go more often and we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else on the Island.

Room Tip: All rooms are equally lovely but we have a soft spot for Room 3 which is beautifully decorated and h...

An excellent evening after a long day walking the island . Food very good with excellent service from the staff. Beer well kept and very tasty. Surprised at some of the reviews on here as we could not find fault.

Andrew and Janice could not be more helpful! We received a very warm welcome and the rooms were ready even though it was early in the day. Although the restaurant was busy in the evening the service and food were excellent and the atmosphere lively. The bar stocked a good range of malt whiskies and there were two real ales on tap. Overall a very good place to stay when visiting Holy Island.

after having a lovely morning exploring the holy island, we made a terrible mistake by deciding to have a short and relaxing break, just a hot beverage tea and hot chocolate and soup to warm the cockles.the mistake was to go for this break to the ship inn. after ordering at the bar we sat down in the dinning area, and sure enough the waiter appeared with the beverages very promptly, then soon after return with the soup and decided to tip the contents of cup with the hot chocolate over my wife if i had known this i think i would have ordered cold water, but that was not the worst. after my wife had rushed to the ladies in understandable distress, the waiter who in the first instance apologized, then tried to put the blame on my wife, i can only presume for walking in this awful place in the first instance. at no time did the staff show any concern for my wife in any way. after asking for a return of my money, and complaining about the conduct of staff, i was brow beated by obnoxious young east European woman, who was making a effort to deflect the issue, by insinuating that i was a trouble causer for complaining.after retrieving, my wife and leaving the awful place, were followed by a very rotund small man,who claimed to be the proprietor of the establishment, and proceeded to accuse me of causing a seen in his inn, and using fowl language and never even enquired of my wifes well-being in any way shape or form.by this arrogant mans manner,i could see where the staff got their training from. enter at your own risk. what a terrible place.

Listed as dog friendly arrived to find dogs allowed in garden only. Ordered expensive crab sarni's nearly eight quid each! local gift shop half that, might as well have gone there and sat on village green as we had to sit in pub garden with the dog, put sun brolly up to keep food dry! Getting a bit irritated by pubs advertising dog friendly and then have to sit outside in freezing cold, appreciate they may not want dogs in the restaurant, scruffier people in the bar than our dog, hardly a posh pub! Waitress was nice otherwise didn't feel welcome, probably won't go back even if we are on our own, next time will try one of the other pubs!

Room Tip: When we tried to book told us only one dog friendly room and it was already booked for the dates we...

We had 2 nights here and also ate in the restaurant both nights. Our host Andrew was very informative about the island and gave us great advice on a superb walk.
The room wasn't luxurious but it was a generous size and clean and comfortable.
The food was excellent and service equally so.
Good WiFi signal in the room and just a few mins walk to the & priory.

Before you stay on Holy Island you should understand prices are a little higher than on the mainland but not ridiculous and given the logistics of supplying the island taking tides into account and distance from the nearest large town the modest price addition is fair.

Staying on Holy Island is a special experience as the crowds met away as the tide returns making the place feel exclusive.

Highly recommended

Stayed for two nights, on arrival got a warm welcome despite it being very busy. Room was clean and a comfortable four poster bed. We ate at the inn both nights food was tasty and plentiful the home made apple pie is a must try ( like your mother used to make ). All the staff are very welcoming and attentive even after long busy days, all in all a very nice stay will definitely stay again and recommend to others

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and our staff we were able to look after you well during your 2 day break with us. In particular your comments on our home made apple pie have been passed on to our chef and associated staff who appreciate the compliments made.
