“In need of some TLC”
Reviewed 23 June 2012

We stayed just for one night. My first impression was a very dull and lifeless Reception Area with cobwebs in the corners. The room we were given was downstairs next to the Spa and was very disappointing. Worn carpet, tired furniture, big stain on ceiling, gloomy bathroom with missing/broken floor tiles next to bath. We asked to be moved and the Duty Manager was very nice and arranged for us to move to a refurbished room. It was much better, with a lovely view of the golf course. We had dinner and breakfast in the John Dobson Restaurant and the food was absolutely superb, along with the service, which was faultless.

This hotel could be really special but needs a lot of time and money spent on it to bring it up to what we would expect of a 4* hotel. Hats off to the fantastic staff though, who did it proud.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

Having stayed at Linden Hall for a business trip I was very shocked to see that this hotel actually gets a 4* rating. While the décor in the reception area and lounge is not bad I found the rooms to be very dated, with discoloured flowery headboards, old fashioned furniture and a mouldy and dated bathroom. The walls are also very thin so I could hear people in the next room and also a man snoring too.

While the room did come with luxury toiletries and complementary water that is about the only thing I can compliment this room on.

On check out I had to wait over 15 minutes to check out as there was only one person serving, despite other members of staff coming behind the front desk but not serving anyone.

The irony of it though was the following night I stayed at a premier inn- which does not class itself as luxury at all. However, the room was cleaner, more modern and had a lot nicer bathroom and shower. So the fact a premier inn ranks a lot higher than the supposedly 4* Linden Hall says something about the quality or lack of it, of this hotel.

Room Tip: Go for the local premier inn down the road and certainly do not pick here if you are looking for a...

This spa looks old & tired & requires a major refurbishment. I booked this as a birthday gift for a friend but I was very disappointed. Found the spa staff to be extremely unhelpful and disinterested in addressing the needs of the client. We had to ask five times for the slippers/flip-flops we had been promised on our arrival, they were only given to us 3 hours into our visit and that was because my friend wanted to go outside and so asked for them again!! When I asked the spa staff if they could contact the restaurant to request our table booking be moved to a slightly later time I was advised I would have to go to the main reception are, in my robe!! I pleasantly asked the spa staff on the spa reception if she could ring main reception with my request. I was told she did not know how to use the phone. I asked if she could find someone who could.
However the main restaurant evening meal experience was exceptional the waiting staff could not have been more helpful.
This was not enough to make me return to this hotel for a spa session I was upset and angry at the treatment my friend and I received from the spa staff, there are clearly staff training issues as well as hygiene, cleanliness and a poor level of politeness. very disappointing as this was a special birthday gift. We will not return and will not recommend this to spa experience to any friends or family members

This was our first visit to this hotel , we were recommended by Tourist information in Morpeth.
who said it was a very nice place to stay , and they were not wrong .....The hotel is in a lovely setting nice garden and scenary , great for afternoon or evening walk .
The staff were welcoming and friendly but professional with it , We had a spacious suite at the very fron of the hotel , which was very comfotable with plenty of room to relax , facilities were excellent , although we did not try the spa or play golf .
One of the nicest things for us was that although the main restaurant was fully booked on our fist night , they have their own pub in the grounds so we had supper there in fact so good we ate there on the next night to , oh and there is a cocktail bar in the hotel , where we treated ourselves to pre dinner cocktails .
We were so impressed with our stay here we intend to try other hotels in this group .

Room Tip: we had small suite at front room243," Adeane ." dirrectly above entrance.

Our first stay here was not a good one. But, our family live nearby and am pleased to say this time our stay was much improved. The staff were much better in their manner and were always cheerful. Our check-in by Gemma was smooth and efficient. Many of the rooms are different. Ours was lovely They do have adapted rooms suitable for disabled. Swimming pool is smallish but it was great for a relax before dinner after being out and about all day. The food is lovely although portions for the desserts were a touch small. A waiter in particular stood out by his delightful approach but I am not sure if his name is something like Gnash! Most of the waiting staff were pleasant. We were pleased to learn that a certain male member of staff was no longer with this hotel. The hotel is very grand and stands in magnificent grounds. We do not play golf, so cannot comment on that

We had a weekend (men play golf women shop type of weekend) and we chose to return to Linden Hall this year having been before 2 or 3 years ago and glad we did. The offer was very good, we had a brilliant afternoon tea as part of the deal which was perfect after shopping but possibly ruined our appetites for our evening meal!
The staff are all really helpful and friendly, there was a wedding during the day but this did not effect us and nor was it noisy at night. Our room was spotless, bed comfortable, you could ask for no more. The grounds are lovely (but it always rains when we go!)
The Linden Tree restaurant is a nice informal setting with good staff and food, no complaints at all. The breakfast was excellent, they were very busy the morning after the wedding obviously with so many guests but the service was very good and the cooked to order breakfast faultless.
A lovely place to visit and even more worthwhile when MacDonald have offers available

Room Tip: Our room faced the gardens on the second floor - our friends were on the floor above, again facing t...

Stayed 2nts on the Spring offer, Dinner B & B included so we thought we'd got a good deal. We had a suite which was very spacious & quiet overlooking the disabled car spaces. The bathroom was spotless but the room carpet was in need of spring clean. Very comfortable king size bed.
As we had 2 guests for dinner the 1st evening we had booked our table, expecting to have the same time slot at 7pm on our 2nd night. Beware! We had not been booked in on the 2nd nt even though the rate included dinner & at first were only offered a table at 8.45pm which was far too late for us oldies. Eventually the Restaurant manager fitted us in at 6.45pm which suited us fine.
The food was super, everything arrived piping hot & the service was faultless. Slightly different at breakfast as it was very busy & the staff were stretched but remained very pleasant at all times.
Every member of staff went out of their way to be helpful. We couldn't get a spa treatment as they were fully booked so probably better to book ahead.
