Our overall impression of this log cabin was of a place where the owners had not cut corners on quality. As other reviewers have said, it was immaculately clean. The sitting room is spacious and comfortable and the kitchen was well-equipped. I have a bad back and found the chairs and bed comfortable. We did find the ensuite bathroom very small but the second one was adequate.
One detail is they need to tighten both loo seats which swung to one side on contact. It would also help to have a simple how-to set of instructions on display on the various items in the home. We visited when the nights were cold and struggled for two nights before figuring out the heating.
We also appreciated the atmosphere in the holiday park. We walked our dog every day along safe woodland tracks and past other residents, all very friendly. There were families at play and other groups relaxing on their balconies.
On places to visit, we enjoyed birdwatching at nearby Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre (tea and snacks available). There are breath-taking views further along the coast at Druridge Bay across its fine sandy beach and rocky outcrops to Coquet Island. Also recommend a trip to Lindisfarne (Reached by causeway at low tide) with great tea rooms. Best day out this May was to the house and gardens at Cragside with the rhododendrons in bloom. The 19th century house is a marvel to the inventiveness of William Armstrong, it’s founder, from the mechanised gadgets in the kitchen (an early attempt at a dishwasher!) to the first hydro-electrically powered lighting in the world. You can drive for over 6 miles through the grounds past the extensive gardens and up into the moorlands. Wonderful day out.
Stocked up with food from Sainsburys superstore, just 9 miles away in Alnwick.
The location was brilliant, very relaxing and enjoyable stay. The owner keeps a very tidy well maintained lodge which made our stay better instantly. If you are looking for peaceful place to stay with a fantastic hot tub then this is the place for you. I know I will be going back
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the chillingham lodge. The lodge itself is surrounded by lovely surroundings with plenty of things to do. The owners have kept the lodge very clean and tidy, we would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice break. We will definately be going back.
We had a lovely weekend away at the chillingham lodge. Lovely surroundings, the lodge was clean & tidy. And importantly for that weekend - warm & cosy.
The hot tub was fantastic, we really enjoyed sitting in it as the snow fell around us.
We nearly didn’t go due to the “beast from the east!” I contacted Cheryl and explained my concerns & she was happy to change my dates if we couldn’t make it. The weather settled the next day & we made it, Cheryl was lovely & very understanding. Wonderful hosts.
We had a Lovely relaxing trip & will definitely book again.
