Based on excellent reviews, my wife and I travelled up from Dorset staying 4 nights at Birchwood House mid-September. The previous reviews were spot on and this establishment is a model for how all B&B's should be. The rooms are spacious, exceptionally clean and the bathrooms modern with luxurious soft towels and dressing robes supplied. There is a large comfortable lounge for guests use at any time. Gaye is the most friendly and hospitable proprietoress and nothing is too much trouble in making her guests feel at home. The breakfast selection is superb and Gaye makes sure nobody leaves hungry! A real home from home.
On a general note. A good pub nearby for evening meals. Alnwick is an interesting market town to visit and a visit while there to the unique and enormous Barters Book shop (actually converted from Alnwick railway station) is a must. Many other interesting places in the area to see. Recommend Cragside, home of Sir Robert Armstrong, Victorian inventor and industrialist; also Alnwick Castle, seat of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.

Stayed here for just the one night with the wife when we travelled up to collect a puppy from a local breeder & was delighted with the place. Gaye the owner was lovely & greeted us at the entrance on arrival with a warm welcome & made us feel right at home. We were shown into our room for the night 'room 1' which was spotlessly clean & of a modern decor which is right up our street. Gaye then shown us the lovely spacious lounge area (equipped with pool table) & breakfast room. After a great nights sleep the breakfast the next morning was top draw (opted for a full English 10/10) with something on offer for all tastes. All in all the stay was absolutely lovely & when visiting the area again we won't be looking for anywhere else to stay that for sure !!! ;)

A fantastic place to stay, just off the A1, ten minutes south of Alnwick. Gaye was very welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. The property is immaculately clean, beautifully furnished in a warm and modern style. Big, white, fluffy towels, state of the art shower, a really comfortable bed, and a lovely large room. Gaye and her husband have obviously given a lot of thought to their guests' needs, and the selection of teas, coffee and cake available in the breakfast room throughout our stay was great. Loads of different cereals and juices, a fantastic cooked breakfast, lots of choice, eggs fresh from their own hens. There is also a lovely guest lounge, so great to socialise in if you're travelling with other people. We absolutely can't fault this place - we'd stayed at the Marriott in York just a couple of nights before and, to be honest, this was better! (sorry Marriott). Although it's situated conveniently just off the A1 and so you can hear road noise outside, it wasn't a problem at all in the property, and all the guest rooms face onto the garden at the back. We loved it and will definitely be back next time we're in the north of England. Can't recommend it highly enough - fantastic, thank you!

Room Tip: All good rooms as all face the back garden and not the main road.

We booked a one night stay on the morning we required accommodation. Photo on website looked ok, but we were stunned by our overnight stay there. Room was spacious, stylish, designed with all the facilities you look for in a stay away. Bathroom was roomy, contemporary and spotlessly clean. Breakfast had so much choice, hot dishes cooked to order and lovely fresh fruit salad, Greek yoghurt, nice breads, fresh coffee..... get the idea? Host Gayle is a lovely lady, so helpful that she even offered to drive us to the local pub a mile away if we wanted to have a drink. Don't be put off by the approach which is shared by a their contracting business, this place is more comfortable than many a costlier hotel.

Room Tip: Next to A1 but noise is not a problem. Also, address is Felton but not actually in Felton village, i...

Stayed here a few times and could not wish for better. Gaye and Laul are great people and feel like friends as soon as you walk in the door. We feel like we are at home but with nothing to do except enjoy being taken care of and being spoilt ! They even let you use their fridge and microwave in the dining room if you want to. It amazes me how Gaye keeps going ! Spotless and wow what a breakfast feast. Thanks again to you both.

My husband and son(aged 3) stayed here for 2nights for a family christening nearby. From the moment we arrived Gaye and Laul made us feel so welcome offering us tea coffee and cake! Ive stayed at several B&Bs over the years and can honestly say i was not expecting the rooms to be of such a high standard(ive stayed in hundreds of hotels all over the world and some 4star hotels dont have the finess like theirs do) My son especially liked the lounge room with pool table! The breakfasts were top class(only wish we couldve of ate more because the selection was awesome! Id most definitely recommend this place and we would love to return in the future. Thanks guys for a wonderfull stay!

We stayed here as part of my birthday celebration and would like to say a big thank you for an excellent night's accommodation. Your home is fantastic, the rooms well laid out with a great deal of thought given and very comfortable. The hospitality shown to us, especially providing the taxi run was second to none. I apologise that we could not do enough justice to the fabulous breakfast laid out for us, I personally would have loved to try some of the cheese together with a slice of the tea loaf, toasted. Nothing was too much. Thank you once again and hope to stay there again soon. Christine
