We unknowingly arrived just days after the re-opening and found no goats on the roof! However the staff were friendly, the view was superb and the food delicious. Service was a little slow but there were 12 of us and we were treated to free coffees as an apology for the wait. The goats will be back soon but they ate enough of the roof that health and safety want repairs made before goats come atop the eatery next.

I popped up and found that it had closed and been sold and was reopening under NEW MANAGEMENT
For Easter.Looked a great place for family with an abundance of safe play areas and animals.
Great for cyclists.
Look forward to seeing what it's like open!

Nestled by a reservoir on the road between Rothbury and Scots Gap, 'Goats on the Roof' is ideally located as a base to walk from. The café is a wooden chalet overlooking the water, surrounded by pens with rare breeds in them, and with a goat paddock linked to the roof.

We dropped in for a light lunch and to be able to say we'd eaten somewhere with goats on the roof. Service was okay and the averagely priced food not bad, but then it's difficult to go wrong with a sandwich. Unfortunately the card machine wasn't working and the chef had to be called through to operate the 'old technology' card imprinter.

If you're looking for goat related trinkets, don't. The café shop was a less than impressive couple of IKEA-style shelving units with goods of dubious quality and no stuff linked to either goats or the rare breeds - barely worth a look.

Sadly though, the café occupies a fairly exposed spot so on cooler windy days even the cheeky goats were smart enough to stay sheltered.

Verdict: Nice idea that's worth a look once. I wouldn't necessarily go back again.

Its a nice location and the decors is really nice but I was dissapointed with what was on offer. The adverts build the place up as a pub or maybe I misread. Its a cafe which closes at 4.30pm and after 3pm the choice is really limited.

The view is really amazing so it is dissapointing that the food menu is so rubbish, specially given the long drive to get there...
