We spent a lovely few days in the Farmhouse Cottage in early October and used it as a base to explore the area. The accommodation was very comfortable (and toasty warm) and the owners very welcoming. The layout of the cottage was perfect for an active toddler eager to wander and explore. There is lots to do nearby and we made trips to Hadrian's Wall, Kielder Forest, the Farne Islands and Cragside House. Would highly recommend and we'll be staying again...

Spent a fab week here, my wife 's first visit to Northumberland. On arrival the Cottage was spotless warm cosy and welcoming, oh and the home made cake was fab and didn't last long...! ;-)
Bailey (our dog) soon made himself at home taking over the rug in front of the fire yes we did light it one night. Not that we really needed to...
The eggs from the chickens (girls) were the best we've every had and I'm sure we nearly ate all they produced while we where there. The ponies were very sweet and welcomed the odd carrot and fuss..
A proper shower would have been perfect, but i soon got used to having a bath...! ;-)
Would stay agin if we are back in the area...!

The best food around we found to be The Bay Horse, very good food service and welcomed Bailey...!

We stayed for a week with our 2 boys (11 & 14) and 2 dogs in August. The cottage was well located for touring and set on a river where my son (a keen fisherman) caught his first trout ! In fact he spent every morning and evening perched on the lovely river bank with the nice neighbors we met who were staying in the other cottage. The cottage was clean, beautifully furnished (rustic), very comfortable and perfectly equipped - thoughtful touches like milk, tea, sugar, cleaning products and a delicious home made cake, awaited our arrival. Even with our hoard of family and pets, the cottage was a good size. The vendors were so kind and made our stay really special, lighting fires to keep the mossy's away when Sam was fishing and the eggs from their own hens made wonderful scrambled eggs for breakfast ! We had arranged for all our shopping delivered to our cottage too (Tesco or Asda available). The boys particularly loved the rope swing and hay bales in the barn outside. We liked the little ponies looking over the fence of our garden too ! Nice and secure for our dogs(who didn't like the ponies as much as us), with tables and chairs to sit outside. We toured all over, Kielder National Park, Hadrians Wall, and Holy Island and the miles of sandy beaches being a big hit with kids and dogs alike !! We didn't get time to see it all, a week's not long enough - when we go back, we will be going to Elishaw Cottages. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend to others.

What a brilliant place to base yourself for exploring the wonderful Northumbrian countryside!
We stayed in the Chicken Coop View cottage which is very comfortable, well equipped and relaxing.
We thoroughly enjoyed the welcoming cake, Feeding the Chickens & Shetland ponies, walking down by the river and watching the Swallows, Robins, Finches and re-acquanting ourselves with the spectacle of the night time sky, including shooting stars!
Many of the local attractions are easily reached inc Bamborough Castle, Alnwick, Hexham, Hadrians Wall, Jedborough ,Kielder Water (First Red Squirrel i had seen in Forty Years & First Adder in 30!). Well worth the effort driving up from South Staffordshire.

We stayed here for our main summer holiday (2 weeks) with our 3 year old daughter, Heather. The cottage was ideally located to visit Kielder with some beautiful National Trust properties and other attractions also within easy driving distance. We never ran out of things to do. The cottage itself was just right for us and had lots of character. Heather loved that the horses were in the field just behind our garden and she enjoyed watching them and feeding them breadsticks. She also liked the chickens! Owners very helpful and welcoming, with a number of thoughtful touches left in the cottage for our arrival. Very much enjoyed our holiday, thank you!

Stayed at the Farmhouse Cottage for 4 days from 17th to 21st September with my girlfriend.
Lovely welcome with a fresh flowers and home-made jam sponge cake and a pint of milk in the fridge.

Accomodation is very clean, "spotless" infact and a lovely barn conversion. Very cosy with log burner (although we never got time to use it). Nice enclosed garden for each cottage to view the stars at night (so many due to their being no street lights). Access to the farmland with orchard and walks down to the river.

Great location for heading out to Kielder (we saw red squirrels for the first time there, North East Coast (and the numerous castles) and the many walks as well as the local towns and the City of Newcastle.

Definately recommend. 10/10.

Beautiful location. Gorgeous, traditional barn conversion. All very tastefully done, with wooden beams and high end finishing touches. As we arrived milk awaited us in the fridge so that we could have a cup of tea (tea, coffee and sugar in cannisters ready and waiting), a homemade cake was on the kitchen side and fresh tulips on the kitchen table. Loved the cosy woodburner - ready primed for lighting with more wood/lighters in the basket by the side. Toiletries, all cleaning needs, products and materials were all provided. The lounge/diner/kitchen was roomy for four plus dog and dog crate. Lovely bedrooms - kids loved the bunkbeds and 'no bang heads' barn ceiling. What really made it though was the barn with hay bales and rope swing so the kids could play outside without getting drenched (rained loads). The 12 acres were great for gentle walks down to the river and there were more swings and a hammock to play in if you were lucky enough for good weather. We enjoyed fresh eggs from the hens roaming round the farm too. We also appreciated the boot room for our wet things and the garden at the back of the property was lovely and well planted, as well as being secure for our dog (although she wasn't sure about the ponies coming to see her by the gate!). We even had a bright sunny morning on the last day to have a cup of tea outside on the bench and chairs. The area is great with lots to do. Would go back to stay here again.

Room Tip: Both cottages looked lovely but if you like a seperate garden, Farmhouse cottage has the bigger and...
