Stayed here just before xmas with our 6 year old little boy as we were going to the Kielder Winter Wonderland. Stayed 1 night and it was lovely. As soon as we got there the owner/landlady gave us a lovely warm welcome and even went to our room to make sure it was nice and warm as it was so cold outside. Our room was great- nice and big and the beds were comfy- having a bath was a bonus too!!! We asked to eat in the bar as there was a pool table and dart board there- this was no problem and the food was nice, as was the breakfast the next morning. Hopefully will be back to the Winter wonderland next year and would defo be booking here again.

Room Tip: Family room has a bath.

we stayed here for a weekend while we attended a family wedding nearby. The rooms were comfortable and clean and well stocked with tea/coffee/biscuits etc. The breakfasts were awesome and dinner in the restaurant on the first night was really good, and huge! The owners and their staff were very welcoming and friendly and really couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable and happy, even giving us packed lunches to replace our breakfasts when we had to leave really early on the Monday morning. We had made several changes to our bookings as some of our party live overseas and had to alter flights etc, but it was never a problem to the staff. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough - okay, it isn't five star luxury, but it is home from home! Just lovely.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front have the better view across the moors, but also overlook the road, however th...

On a wet and dismal day we stopped here for a late lunch and were very happy with the food and the service. The fish and chips, the stuffed mushroom lattice and the sticky toffee pudding were all delicious. A British style pub atmosphere added to our enjoyment as did the good service.

Only stayed overnight but will definitely return. Room (8) was comfortable and very clean. Well stocked tea and coffee facilities. We enjoyed an evening meal in the bar (our only regret was we couldn't manage a desert after our starter and main) before retiring to our lovely warm room. When we walked outside before breakfast we were greeted by the most amazing view which was enhanced by the morning sun and frost. Full English breakfast was delicious.

My husband and myself stayed here for 1 night as an anniversary treat and were blown away by friendliness and hospitality were were shown. We were given choice of 2 rooms and chose room 9 which was warm, modern and extremely well kept.we dined downstairs and the meals we had were beautifully presented and fantastic value for money. Had a fantastic sleep and next morning we were served a beautiful hot breakfast with fresh tea and coffee. If we were coming this way again we would have no hesitation in booking here again. Well done!!

I stayed over just the once, although I've often stopped for a drink or a very decent meal on my regular journey between Jedburgh and Newcastle. Although it's always been good, it has particularly got into my good books recently since they spruced it up a little (but without upping any prices) and started serving real ales. I'm told most of the farmers nearby just drink lager, but the place's reputation seems to be drawing in people from further away now.

Our night's sleep was peaceful, in a clean comfortable room with a view across the valley, and in the morning we went on a walk through the woods behind the place which are maintained as a kind of nature reserve. It is private land used mainly for kids' groups to camp out in, but everyone is welcome to go around it when it is quiet. We saw red squirrels and 3 roe deer! I blame my partner - she's a birdwatcher so we were up almost at dawn. Then back for tea and a second sleep, perfect!

Also, check out the pen sketch on the walls, of local characters from the early twentieth century.

We did not stay here, but wished we had after coming from our disappointing accommodation and restaurant situation. We only had a meal here which we enjoyed. The staff were pleasant and the place had a cosy feel with art On the walls and books to look at.
