We have stayed here many times when Simon and Carol were the hosts. This was the first time since Helen took over. Everything was just as good as before with some additions such as a much wider choice at breakfast. I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit salad. The creation of a lounge area for guests is a nice touch, warm and cosy with a wood burning stove. We stayed in the super king bedroom that was very clean, spacious and attractive. Helen was really friendly and made us very welcome. The location is very good with the harbour a short stroll away. We would not hesitate to stay here again

Room Tip: The super king bedroom is great but had a look in the other double room and that was also very spaci...

We have stayed in many B+B's but this one is by far the best, The lovely owner Helen made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. The room was large and airy with a comfortable bed and excellent power shower. We stayed two nights and had delicious breakfasts both mornings. We hope to return next year.

A place to go to and to return to - clean. comfortable, welcoming and really friendly atmosphere. Excellent breakfast - I chose scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and muffins from a wide selection offered on a menu the evening before. :)

Stayed 1 night at Mainston House, we were met by Helen the owner who is very warm and friendly. She showed us to our room and brought us bottled water and fresh milk for a cuppa.
I stayed in the single room and my friend had a double room.
The single room had everything you needed including a huge bathroom with a bath and shower with complimentary toiletries.
My friends room was large with a little sitting area. The bathroom had a lovely walk in shower.
Breakfast: You had to choose your breakfast the evening before, there was a lovely menu and it was hard to decide what to have. We decided to have the big breakfast and when it arrived that's exactly what it was...huge !!! Along side that there was fresh fruit salad, yogurts, cereal and fruit juice.A lovely breakfast in a really pleasant dining area.
Mainston House is a lovely little find and I would definatly return again

We spent a week here and found everything about Mainston House to be just right. From the moment we arrived and were met by Helen to the time we left we felt well looked after. The room was sizeable, comfortable and spotless. If there was anything that we needed we only had to ask and Helen made it happen. She was interested in our experiences of travelling in the area and our rating of local restaurants and pubs and gave us great recommendations for things to do in the area. The catering was excellent - a wonderful choice of breakfasts plus the usual cereals, juices etc. One night we ordered takeaway pizza from the restaurant down the road and Helen was happy for us to eat it in the breakfast room, providing cutlery etc and even tidying up the packaging for recycling afterwards. We thoroughly recommend Mainston House to anyone visiting this area. 5 stars well deserved!

More impressive on the inside than the outside. From the outside it looks just like another house on the main street but inside, where it counts, the rooms were terrific. We had the super king family room and it was huge, clean and lovely. The bathroom was really impressive as well with a nice big tub to relax in. The host very kindly let us store our bicycles and recommended local restaurants to us. I'd definitely stay here again without hesitation.

My wife and myself had a short break at Mainston this week. We had the family room as it was the only room available, it was vey spacious, comfortable and had all that you could want for. Helen the owner is very helpful and welcoming. The place itself was absolutely spotless. The choice of breakfast was wide, I went both days for the "Big English" , what a breakfast, 2sausages,3bacon rashers, 2 fried eggs, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and fried bread. It was freshly cooked and delicious, didn't need to eat anything for the rest of the day. Any criticism non whatsoever.
Any time we are in that part of the country again it will be our first port of call.
