“Real pub”
Reviewed 10 July 2013

Great atmosphere in this real ale pub. Lots of seafaring memorabilia that someone, somehow manages to keep clean and shiny. Good selection of real ales, friendly efficient staff, no music or slot machines - brilliant. They do food too.

“Seahouses in the sunshine”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

Enjoyed a drink in the bar of this busy pub, popular with locals and tourists. Very friendly staff. All the ship paraphernalia on the walls was fascinating. Then had a good meal in the more sedate restaurant.

“Great beer and food selection”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

The old Ship is a superb location for lunch and a lovely pint of local Northumbria ale.. There soup and sandwich for £6 was an excellent deal while we were visiting last week. The menu is interesting and varied with a good selection of vegetarian options (both lunch and diner menus). Only down side is they stop serving at 20:30 in the evening.

“just fell short”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

The restaurant was very clean the staff exellent, my wifes meal was a Beef hotpot style that she rated as Great, but I had the lobster, whilst a good size and price, it had been cooked some time before service and kept chilled this had made the meat tight and a bit chewy, being only 200 yards from the sea a bit disappointing for me, but still a great pub venue.

Typical local pub with adjoining restaurant. Big portions and reasonable food. Very busy on the Saturday night we were there with people being turned away
