“Amazing adventure even if you are not a keen bird watcher”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

So pleased that we decided to take the evening tour to explore the Farne islands late in the evening even though we had a long drive home thereafter. The catamarang goes so close to the islands and the birds are least bothered by their visitors. The skipper is well informed and moves the "boat" 360 degrees so that everyone is close to the birds and get a good view and photos. The sunset over Bramburgh castle at the end was the cherry on the cake. There is ample car parking at the pier and it is free when the evening trip takes place. Ample toilet facilities nearby. Worth a trip when you are exploring Northumberland

“Great crew and boat”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

The two crew were really attentive and knowledgeable. They came around chatting to individual groups of passengers to share local knowledge. Knew lots about the wildlife and keen to share it. Got very close to the nesting birds on the sea cliffs and to basking seals. Taken nice and slowly so everyone got great views.
Purpose built catamaran is very stable and seating space was ample. No shelter if it rains; on-board toilet.
Our trip was at a very low tide so there was a queue of 3 other boats to land on Inner Farne, but instead of just sitting in the queue they took us off for more wildlife spotting. Brilliant, and still had full hour on the island as advertised. All-in-all our 2 1/2 hr trip turned into 3 3/4hrs.

“It needs more than 5 * - its' brilliant!”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

The trip to farne islands and landing on the bird reserves is something we have done before. What was so good this time was the attention this operator paid to our needs - and the trouble taken to ensure we saw everything possible to see. It was quite clear that the 'captain' and crew member were themselves enthralled by the wild life and interested in it (and knowledgeable too!)

First rate!

“A fantastic day out with a great crew.”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

Almost booked on the Billy Shiel trip, however pleased I didn't when I seen how many were packed on his boat.
The serenity team seem to have customer comfort as their number 1 priority.
This trip was the 2.5 hour one with an island landing, however we were out for well over 3 hours...now that's value for money.
Nothing was a problem for the skipper and his assistant. They were very interesting to listen to and clearly have a passion for what they do.
I'd highly recommend serenity to anyone looking for a fantastic seahouses experience. Oh and remember to pack a hat ;)

“The best boat company for a trip to the Farnes !”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

I’ve used Serenity Farne Island Tours a number of times now and have always found the Skipper and his deckhands to be extremely friendly and helpful.

I am a regular visitor to the Farnes and have used the other boat companies at Seahouses in the past, but now I only ever use Serenity. They are a smaller operator but stand out from the crowd as a friendly company that really cares about the birds and other wildlife around the Farnes.

Andrew the skipper is an ex Seahouses fisherman and blossoming birdwatcher, it is clear he has a real passion for the marine environment and he never gets bored of showing people the wildlife that he must see everyday !

For these guys it is obviously about much more than just making money, they are clearly very keen to share the amazing marine environment with passengers as best they can. I have been on Serenity a couple of times when dolphins have been sighted a long way off, both times Andrew has stepped out of his cabin and had a word with the passengers to ask if they would be happy to spend a little more time at sea in order to see the dolphins. Both times the response from passengers was positive and a massive diversion was made to ensure everyone on the boat got an amazing dolphin experience.

I have also been on this boat when they have spotted a seabird in trouble, the boat was diverted, the bird caught and a tangle of fishing line removed before releasing the bird again.

A few weeks later a similar scenario unfolded with an eider in Seahouses harbour, no one else was bothered about this bird but Andrew from Serenity spent a good amount of time trying to catch it and eventually succeeded, removing a hook and fishing line from its bill. It is obvious that these guys care about the birds and wildlife and for this they certainly get my vote.

The boat normally used is Serenity II. This is a catamaran and therefore a lot more stable than all of the other boats in Seahouses. Because of this it allows excellent opportunities for photography, and when combined with the skippers obvious skill at manoeuvring the boat there is absolutely no doubt that it is the best Farnes boat for getting good close photographs of seabirds on cliffs.

Finally, I’ve just read another review on here regarding disabled access. My wife is disabled and uses a wheelchair. She has travelled with me on Serenity a couple of times now. Both times the crew were extremely helpful and patient with her. They took their time helping her on and off the boat and making sure she was comfortable, even offering her an extra coat from inside the cabin and a cup of coffee when she was cold. They went beyond the call of duty in my opinion. I witnessed similar treatment a few weeks later when I was on the boat and they helped another wheelchair user onboard.

So there you have it, if you want the best wildlife experience with people who obviously care then I would certainly recommend Serenity Farne Island Tours. A great experience, nice guys and a great service all round !
