Lovely views - excellent staff - very average food. What a shame that a hotel in such a prominent position is in such a need of decorating and refurbishment. Our room (road facing) was very dark and dismal and the decor very shabby. The views from the 1st floor lounge and the dining area (3 tables on the right) were superb. The whole place was grubby. Considering the price we were very dissapointed. On a positive note the staff could not be faulted they were friendly and very helpful.

Shabby, tatty "deluxe" sea view room. Boil-in-the-bag cuisine at dinner. The experience was not pleasant and could not be rescued by the superb position. All for £150 per night per couple. Best avoided.

The 'superior sea view' room appeared to have not been cleaned upon arrival with food on the floor, hairs in the bath and mould in the mini-bar, which was all it contained. A sea view was virtually impossible because the window was so dirty. Decor in the bedroom was faded, stained and looked as though it was last replaced in the seventies. The whole hotel had an air of neglect with a musty smell and an appearance that said 'redecorate me now'!

Sadly the whole hotel appears in need of refurbishment, which is a great pity because it is in a wonderful position. It definitely does not meet expectations given by the advertising material. The staff are the only good aspect this hotel being both friendly and helpful.

After staying in several other wonderful hotels in the Lake District and North East this was a bitterly disappointing end to the holiday.

Just stayed at this hotel it had a fantastic views over the coast and farne islands. It had a very smart diners/residents bar and restaurant with log fires, chesterfield sofas all creating a great ambience. Food was delicous and well presented. [also great views from the restaurant] wine list had a good choice from all over the world. Unfortunately the rest of the hotel was in need of serious refurb. Firstly our room had a thread bared carpet, cracks all over the walls and ceilings. Furniture was marked, our room was filthy, draws had dust inside them, window ledges were dirty and dusty, toiletries tray cant of been washed out for months. We dropped some money under the bed, had to pull it out and couldnt believe the dirt and dust underneath. The bed was the worst, dirty old mattress, lumpy bed that went down at one side, it creaked everytime you moved an inch. The upstairs lounge was a great sized room, split onto two levels, fantastic view again. Great fireplace with a chandelier and nice furniture, but the decor again shabby with a terrible foisty smell, a lamp in there was thick with dust. Would love to see this place overalled and would definetely stay again if they did, as the staff were friendly and could not do enough for you. PLEASE,PLEASE GET SOME NEW BEDS!

We stayed here for 3 nights recently and agree with other trip advisor review, lovely hotel staff couldnt do enough for us,there was a lovely relaxed family atmosphere with the owner assisting the staff serving our meal and taking time to chat with his guests. our room overlooked the picture perfect harbour (you wont find a hotel with a better location on this coastline) and we were able to watch the commings & goings in the harbour over breakfast and dinner. have stayed at other hotels in the area and none have the views this one has, or the attentive staff.
We were told by staff that special offers run into early spring next year, we will definatley be back before then.
