My wife and i came to stay at the St Aiden Hotel last november with our Dalmatian Benjamin. We couldn't have asked for anything more. John and Sue were kind, friendly and very welcoming. Our dog is a very nervous boy and you were both very kind to him and even gave him a sausage at breakfast which he loved! We cannot wait to return, but next time we would like to take your 3 nights for the price of 2 as one night was just not enough. We love it. Thank you both so much. We will wait to see when your next offer is on and return forthwith. Pip & Stuart Hepworth and Benjamin the Damlatian!! xx

I spent four nights at the St Aidan in early April, 2014, on the recommendation of friends and the many laudatory reviews here on tripadvisor. I found the reviews accurate, and I won't go into much repetition of the many fine points that commend this hotel. Simply put, John and Sue Gibson know how to run an excellent establishment, and how to take care of their guests.

I will say a few words about the room I stayed in, the Iris Room (No. 5), as it seems to be infrequently mentioned in these pages. According to the hotel's web site, it is the smallest double room at the St Aidan, situated on the first floor. While indeed small, it is more than adequate for a single traveler, or a couple traveling lightly. The room is bright, airy, impeccably clean, and is furnished with small television, hair dryer, terry robes, tea and coffee facility, binoculars, and astounding views out to the isles. The en suite bathroom is huge, modern, with shower-over-tub.

I made my reservations from some distance through e-mail exchange with Mr Gibson; all went without a hitch. I certainly appreciated the special offer of one night free of charge in March and April when staying two or more nights. At check-out, I threatened that my visit may turn into an annual event. I was reluctant to leave.

Trust what has been written elsewhere here about the St Aidan breakfast: expertly prepared, the smoked haddock and salmon exceptional.

Randall F.

My wife and I had been walking the Northumberland Coast Path from Berwick. The sight of the St Aidan's Hotel in Seahouses was very welcoming. The hotel is in a great location, just a few yards from the shore and close to the Farne Islands, Holy Island and Bamburgh. The large bedroom, on an Indian theme, had a view over to all of these locations. As a nice touch, a pair of binoculars was provided. We were certainly looking forward to having a bath after all the walking we had done. Breakfast was excellent - fresh fruit such as raspberries, blackberries and blueberries and magnificent cooked fare with the biggest wedge of black pudding I had ever seen! The St Aidan's Hotel is certainly to be recommended.

Room Tip: If you are walking the coast path, as we were, a bath is so relaxing and some rooms have that facili...

We stayed here for three nights in April 2014. When we arrived and checked in by our host John who was pleasant and friendly. We had booked the 'India Room' which is right at the top of the hotel up two flights of stairs, so not really for anyone who has trouble with stairs. The room itself is superb beautifully furnished and decorated with en-suite bathroom (bath and separate shower) with complimentary shampoos and shower gels, just bear in mind if staying in this room that the hot water takes a while to get up to the second floor but when it does it's piping hot and plentiful... but this merely adds to the fun of staying in such a great place. A lovely comfortable bed, plenty of storage space for clothes etc including wardrobe with shower robes provided. The attention to detail is excellent throughout even the complimentary beverage tray included two small cafetieres and biscuits. The views out along the coastline were stunning with rocks and beaches and Bamburgh Castle in the distance and as if by order we had a couple of nice sunny spring days.
The breakfast each morning was treated with the same attention to detail as all other details, with an truly delicious selection of fruits (Prunes, Stewed Fruits, Strawberry, Blackberries, Blueberries, Grapefruit, Grapes Red and Green) as well as a selection of differtent cereals and fruit juices, this was to be followed with a full English or a selection of other dishes which looked equally as lovely. we opted each day for the full english including Beans and Fried Bread and on the last morning the Black pudding. The food was cooked by our Co-Host Sue and was first class, quite possibly the best breakfasts we have experienced whilst travelling.
An big bonus is that St Aidans is dog friendly hotel which enabled our dogs to spend holiday time with us, an added bonus is the extra sausage provided at breakfast for each dog... like I said, attention to detail here just makes the whole thing special. Dogs are allowed on the beaches and dunes in the area too. Next door to the dining room there is a relaxing sitting room/bar next to the dining room where dogs are permitted and there is an honesty bar with reasonably priced drinks, nuts etc, plenty of games and reading matter or just a nice place to sit and check your mobile or tablet, yes there is free Wifi here too.
Throughout the stay there were no negatives and nothing to fault at all, John and Sue their attention to detail in their hotel made this stay just perfect, so much so that we have decided to tag a few days onto another break in Scotland later in the year and stay here for another three nights on the way up north. thank you very much John and Sue for a brilliant Three days, see you later in the year.

Room Tip: call and speak to John about room requirements and he will suggest the best room for your needs Also...

This is our second visit to the St Aidan. We had a 3 night stay over the New Year and thought we would like to do it all again! Just returned yesterday from another 3 night stay and everything again was spot on. This time we were in room 4 (has a fab view across the Farnes), and it was very comfy and had everything you would need. Breakfasts were really good (especially the large selection of fruit), as before and the cooked breakfasts were to die for! Well done to Sue and John
for making everyone welcome. Our little Westie (as well as all other dogs), had her cooked sausage every morning hence she is now included in our diet starting now!! Many thanks.

Room Tip: Room 4 and room 3 have especially good views.

This is a lovely place to stay and good value. Some nice touches, binoculars to look at the view an honesty bar and chocolates in a bag in the room. We had a room with a four poster. A bit cramped but enough room for the two of us. It was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was very good indeed. Lots of fresh fruit and cereal and then a full breakfast. I would recommend and would stay there again.

It did have one downside, which wasn't the owners' fault. We didn't sleep well, despite the comfy bed as there was someone in the room above us who obviously had a dog, and they weren't particularly considerate. The dog was running about from around 5 am and the dog's owners banged about, opening drawers and goodness knows what else. They were clearly not trying to control the dog at all and had no concern for others in the hotel. The noise woke us and then kept us awake. My tip for the owners of the B&B is to make sure dog owners stay on the first floor.
