Not being local to the area and a little off the beaten track ( took the A1 turning southbound instead of the M1 turning Southbound! ) Managed to stumble upon this little gem tucked off the service junction of the A1 Southbound at Markham Moor. Now its not a Boutique pub/ restaurant/ hotel, however what it does have is friendly, helpful staff ( Kim The barperson!) clean, tidy, comfortable rooms, great food and reasonably priced too. Our room number 1, was clean and tidy, tastefully decorated, had a comfortable double bed, crisp clean bedding ,flat screen TV, Tea coffee, biscuits, nice shower with a container of pumped shower gell. There was a culinary themed evening going on in the restaurant for St Patricks Day, which was well attended. We opted for just a light snack in the bar as it was getting on late, which I don,t think is a normal thing, however we were greatful that this was arranged at short notice with no fuss and I must say the Fish pie was delicious! The bar sells all the usual ale and local ales I had the Dragons Fire I think it was called, a very fine, tasty Ruby Red Ale, 2 pints went down a treat!
We both Had a solid nights sleep, very comfortable( no bad back like we endured from the travelodge the night previously ) Breakfast was an absolute delight, perfectly cooked Full English, lovely butcher style Chipolata Sausage and Bacon all the trimmings! Jug of Orange juice, Steaming fresh coffee, Toast and a selection of Preserves! Absolutely Spot on! A great place to stay, friendly , nice atmosphere, left feeling refreshed and ready for the journey to Devon.
